996 to 991
Anyone else thinking about selling their 996 and moving to a 991? I am but am having a hard time thinking the 991 will be $40K plus better than my 03 C2. Part of me says don't be stupid, keep the 03 and just keep enjoying it, the 996s are really a sweet spot, not too new, not too old.
But the 991s are sweet. What to do...

I am in same boat. Just sold my 997.1 TIP. If it was a manual might have kept it. I have a 996 AE also. Each time I think about selling it I go drive and thats the end of that.
Do go drive the 991. I like them but they seem bigger, more Lexus than Porsche.
I am sure someday I will sell me AE. But not today.

Yes, I drove the 991 right after it came out, bigger, more luxurious, just not sure better.
Just got back from a drive in mine, thats the time I think I am being stupid thinking about this.

Yeah.
My 996 feels like a sports car.
The 991.1 is really nice but its feels to me more like a Luxury car less sports. I am sure if you went S, sports everything but price jumps.

I drove a 2015 991 carrera manual the other day. Nice car, but I really didn't feel the 991 was much faster. My car being an AE w/ x51 I think has a lot to do with that power to weight ratio.
991 is obviously more luxurious, more comfortable suspension, more usable as a daily, the clutch also was a lot easier and helpful for a daily.
I don't drive my car daily, I only drive it for pure sport and pleasure so the 991 for me isn't worth it. If I were to depend on it as my daily transportation I would def go with the 991, but since I don't, I much prefer driving the 996. It's a rougher ride, more raw experience which is perfect for what I use it for.

I sold my 996 and bought a 997, then sold my 997 and bought a 991. I don’t regret it. I find the 991 to be as sporty and fun to drive as the 996 was.
Don’t forget, now that the 992 is rolling off the production line, the 991 has become raw and visceral, the last true 911, etc. The 992 is the fat, bloated GT car.

The 996 is getting old. Porsche dealers are calling it a classic. So that’s a consideration.
Buy the newest 911 you can afford. I’ve driven a 991 and prefer my 996. But I’d bet I’d prefer a 991S more.

I enjoyed my 996.2 immensely (owned it for 7+ years). I was tempted into a newer model because I wanted modern amenities. I was going to go with either a 997.2 (post 2009 for Bluetooth) or an early 991.1. After driving both I decided on a 991.1S w/ Powerkit 4 years ago and subsequently a 981 (which I replaced with another 991.1). I understand what people say about a “raw feel” but, in every way that mattered to me, 991.1 was a better car (so much so that I ended up with two). Ultimately that’s what it’s all about - preference. Both the MA1.04 & MA1.03 (3.4 & 3.8 engine models respectively - I’m sure the Powerkit has yet a DIFFERENT appended number but since I don’t know what it is, I’ll go with the mainstream ones are SWEET engines, and the interior is top notch. Check them out!
Oh, to serve as my own counterpoint, I DO miss being able to see ANY of the engine easily (even if it was really just the intake manifold & belts) and, IMO, Bose was better on 996.2.
Good luck!!

If I drove it as a daily, yes I’d want the more modern car. Since I drive mine for fun, I’ve discovered any car north of 3000 lbs is not fun to me. It’s why I won’t buy another new Mustang ever again, bloated and heavy. My next fun car will likely be a 15 or 16 Boxster or Cayman and they are right at 3k.

Uhhh...so by that logic, the 991 would be more fun because my 2002 996.2 had a curb weight of 3075 (granted that fitted options would change that number so I’m going to go by the numbers I see on Edmunds for consistency) but my 2015 991 is 3042?? Tough to compare to a Mustang at 3705...
When 991 Carrera Ts fall below $50k I will have to drive one.

So I have said this before....my 996 is my forever car...even though I have many of these cars...and frankly my Turbo S that is boosted is the best car I have ever owned....does everything fantastic. However, my 996 is one I can work on, one that I don't mind modifying...for example my 991 TurboS has all wheel steering...so I am afraid to mess with offsets thinking it will mess up the geometries. My 996 is raw (granted it has a 400HP NA engine) and its my canvas that I keep evolving. The TTS will stay the same other than minor upgrades until I sell it...I have no attachment. My general feeling, if you love your car, keep it. The good news here is there are no wrong answers.
