I think it comes down to there being 3 kinds of men

1. Those who beat their wives

2. Those who think jokes about beating wives are funny

3. Those who don't

I never intended to quell jokes or surpress free speech ( that part is hard to do when you're not a government ) freedom of speech is enshrined in our charter of rights and freedoms , and is important .

i just wanted to point out that such jokes didn't make this a welcoming community for women and could lead to this forum turning into so many others . More about being polite than anything . Much like I wouldn't swear in church or while volunteering at the elementary school sports day . I was attacked for that and felt the need to explain I wasn't some sjw keyboard warrior , but rather a combat veteran and former first responder whose experience influenced his decision to speak up . I really didn't think this would blow up like this .
I'm an active PCA member , women are a huge part of that community , even holding chapter executive positions and writing technical articles and generally making it the great family community for Porsche enthusiasts that the club is.in the two Canadian PCA chapters I've belonged to , 25% of the cars were owned by women , and even more jointly owned and driven. There are some very fast women at the track days . Women buying Porsches are part of the reason why Vancouver is second only to Los Angles in North America for Porsche sales , with new dealerships about to open on the island too.

Ive learned a lot from this thread, the divisions we see on news from south of the 49th make a lot more sense now.

i guess I should thank both sides for that learning .
Im going back to working on cars now .

Another graduate of a prestigious Comedic school. Good comedy? So you'll be able to tell us what's OK to laugh at, right?

The portion highlighted is really something. Those wishing to control thoughts and dictate what we can and cannot laugh at are the ones spreading the poison.

For how much people in here invoke the Constitution, few seem to have really understood the first Amendment. You're free to say what you want, I'm free to tell you why you suck for saying it. Noone gets jailed for it.
Again - you have missed the point. Attempting to control thoughts, acceptable speech, what can be considered humor, are all infringements on our rights as free thinking humans. Continuous and further infringements on our freedoms move us closer to Fascism. Maybe that's what you and your kind want. Big Brother will look over you, provide for you, and dictate what you are allowed to think and say. That was Doc's point. It clearly went over your head.

Yes, I know the yellow and red flag. Just my feeble attempt at levity in this ridiculous thread.

Ive learned a lot , the tribal divisions I I see on news from south of the 49th make a lot more sense now.
As a PCA member, you should know, or maybe not - that membership is heavily representative of, and largely influenced by men. Maybe that's why I'm not a member. Seems to be the modern iteration of the 'old boys club'. I would take a wild stab and say that individual female membership (not 'affiliate' or 'family' member, wife of husband member) is less than 15%. Anyone from PCA want to confirm or refute?

Yes, we're having a bit of dust-up down here with 'tribal' divisions(were I a native American, I might choose to take offense at that, but nah - let it slide). More or less boils down to; individual liberty vs mass control from a bureaucratic central committee. And by control by central committee, I mean completely and totally eliminating gasoline powered conveyance by legislative restriction. And what does that mean? No - more - Porsches(unless of course, they are plug-in hybrids)! You go socialist! Utopia is right around the corner, visit Venezuela and see for yourself.

Jesus, trying to follow the logic here is excruciating (<-- my demonstration of inoffensive humor).
Something like IF 'no wife beating jokes' THEN 'communism/fascism/socialism' END (probably 'no wife beating jokes' will mark the end of 'gasoline powered conveyances' too!! you librul/commie bastards!).
This is the 'old boys club' at work. Fortunately father time is ceaselessly working on the ultimate solution. Tick tock.

You compared feudalism which describes a social system in which different tiers of people have different rights and roles and which was enforced by threat of death , to someone saying a joke was in bad taste.

Who is overreacting, Mr Snowflake? Is your right to be not offended getting attacked? I mean, you did compare someone’s opinion about a joke being in poor taste to some of the most brutal and deadly regimes of the last 70 years. Seems like you were offended and you want to prevent that and attack others through histrionics.

I just want this bull**** moved to the correct forum where you can get all offended all day long at people you disagree with.

Actually, quite the opposite. I mentioned three People's Republics. Go look them up if you doubt me. Also, read again, it was not a comparison to the joke at all, it was a question of how the a nation should treat its citizens. You like central control, others prefer mostly unfettered liberty. Choose wisely.

You compared feudalism which describes a social system in which different tiers of people have different rights and roles and which was enforced by threat of death , to someone saying a joke was in bad taste.

Again, not at all a comparison to the joke told. I made no comparison of feudalism to anything, it was one of the examples where the telling of such jokes could only occur at the top of the feudal hierarchy. A joke like that told by a commoner, or a peasant would likely get them a few lashes, or worse.

Who is overreacting, Mr Snowflake? Is your right to be not offended getting attacked? If you FEEL like I was overreacting to the backlash over the joke, then my apologies. I'm sorry you got your feelings hurt. BTW, I actually was being facetious, or sarcastic with the new civil right 'not to be offended'. Sarcasm doesn't come across well in online, but I though I made it broad enough to catch. Perhaps it wasn't broad enough?

I just want this bull**** moved to the correct forum where you can get all offended all day long at people you disagree with.
If you don't like what's on this forum or sub-forum, or what I write, you can(I thought you did) remove yourself from the thread, or the sub-forum, or just add me to the ignore list. Why should we have the lively discussion about a Porsche being crashed by a wife taken away? Control yourself, not others.

Look at you, falling back on a technical difference between communism as a theory and the states that practiced their own systems that were labeled as communism by themselves.

You are deflecting.

There is no desire for a central authority when an individual expresses an opinion. Again you sidestep the argument. You make up straw men, and knock them down in an attempt to look like the smartest guy in the board. And you are nothing of the sort.

And while I think the joke is in bad taste, my entire reaction has been “joke threads go elsewhere” and also to defend against the baseless statements against others.

Go back and reread post #17 amd #20 both were trying to exert control over this forum and it’s members and infringe on free speech in the name of taste and preference.

Dance around it, prose about your military service, blame others, but your words are diversionary at this point.

It is Orweliian, soy laden, socialist group think at best. You literally think you know best how everyone should behave and act at all times. It was a bad joke, but this behaviour is far worse and it is anti-American.

I served too. I’m not using it as a crutch to excuse my own behavior though. I’m not going to thank you for your service and bow down to your bad logic. I don’t want any thanks for mine either.

And if this wasn’t a public forum, I’d tell you in real clear words what kind of person you really are. You two are still trying to control this topic by attacking everyone with a different opinion.

The joke was bad, the attempt to label everyone that chuckled at it as a wife beater or someone that supports battering wives is atrocious. Then hiding behind your military service or any other excuse afterwords is doubling down on stupid.

Care to up the ante again?

I served so people can say whatever they want no matter what it is. It’s called defending The Constitution. Bad things happened to those women abroad because of their culture, laws and very likely religion. Denounce that; don’t blame me or anyone else for it. But you’re too much of a coward to denounce it; you’d rather sit in comfort behind your computer and blame me for it. There are words for people like that, but typing them here will get me in trouble.

I’m done with this steaming pile of Orwellian crap. Have a nice day.

You still don't get Orwell. Rennlist isn't the government. Neither is the person who thinks it's in bad taste. Nobody was banned, no joke or post was edited by the moderators, NOTHING. "Orweliian, soy laden, socialist group think at best" . What's Orwellian about it? What does "soy laden" mean? What is socialist about it (there's been no redistribution of wealth here).

Do you even know what those words mean?

Up until yesterday I had nobody on my Ignore list. Now there are many. Buh-bye.

Free speech protects you from the government infringing on your speech. The government has no power here. If this site wants to allow this or not allow that it is up to them, they are in no way infringing on your rights. I see this all the time on Facebook when posts get taken down, Facebook or any other public forum has no obligation to allow you to say whatever you want to say.

Soy is an expression in far-right circles to describe men that have become feminized (aka the oestrogen found in soy or something). It’s a hidden insult of sorts, started on 4-chan and MRA forums. Thus my initial reaction.
