Default Seat Removal

I'm planning to do a little work on my driver seat in my 03 C4S and was wondering if there's anything I need to be aware of before starting this? The mechanism for the lumbar support has stopped working and I'm thinking about adding heat elements to it since the car didn't come with that option. Should I disconnect the battery prior to the work? Is there a risk of causing any codes (airbag, etc.) if I pull the seat out? Thanks for the help!

I'd recommend disconnecting the battery so you don't throw an airbag code.

Will disconnecting the battery ensure no codes are thrown?

One thing that is a little unusual is that the bolts are e-torx. E12. Craftsman has a set that I picked up for a reasonable price.

I've seen one that shows how to do this on a Boxster, but not a 911. Is the procedure the same?

Let me know if it looks like just the seat backs can be swapped left to right without dismantling the skins please.

Having just done a bit of under seat work, just remember that you need to leave the battery connected in order to move the seats backwards for front seat bolt removal, and then forward for the rear seat bolt removal. Then you can disconnect the battery, disconnect the under seat wiring harness and remove the seats. I would recommend taking pictures of every connector, location and wiring harness before disconnecting. It is a very complicated wiring system under the seat.

Someone can correct me, but I seem to remember that it is important to not put the key in the ignition when the battery is removed so you don’t get an airbag code.

I have had the seats out on both cars and have gotten airbag codes, but have a way to reset the code, so it’s not a big deal.

YIKES!!! So you got codes even though you disconnected the battery?

If you are asking me: I didn’t disconnect the battery, so I guess my comment didn’t make
any sense. Sorry.

Lots of good info here. There are a few things that are worth repeating though

- Don't turn on ignition with the seat disconnected to avoid an airbag light.
- The E12 socket is unique + gets a LOT of torque to unbolt the seats, so I'd recommend a high quality one.
- Put a towel over your dash, steering wheel, and other interior bits like the shift and ebrake to avoid scuffing things. The seats aren't terribly heavy, but when you're trying to maneuver them and bent over in an awkward position they feel like they weigh a ton.
