Default Which non-OEM coolant do you use?

It goes against my grain to pay Porsche prices for coolant.

But which non-OEM coolant is considered best? Clearly, it should be the pink flavor (OAT). Are all brands of this equivalent, or is one superior?

VW/Audi coolant is identical and generally costs less, while still feeling "correct", as opposed to a cheap parts-store brand.

I felt the same way in doing a water pump change. Based on the reported results on an experienced Rennlister, Dharn, who rehabbed an engine with head-crack intermix & refilled with a non-OEM sort & reading this:http://www.pedrosgarage.com/Site_5/C...ntifreeze.html, I opted to use one of those pictured. Years later no issues whatsoever.

Since I had my intermix in 2008 and got the car back on the road in 2009 I have been running g Peak. 10 years and 50,000 miles and no problems with the hoses or plastic fittings or anything else related to the cooling system. You can always pay the Porsche Tax or the German Tax if you want to but I don’t.

Of course Porsche said it was “Lifetime” coolant when my car was made so if you believe that then there is no tax. I change my coolant every 2-3 years.

A while back I bought 2 gallons of porsche oem coolant from suncoast for around $80. From what I remember, the pentosin/pentofrost SF and other non-OEM coolants were in the same ballpark (maybe $10-15 difference for 2 gallons) when I was looking so it wasn't a _huge_ markup.

Currently using the Porsche factory fill recipe for cup cars.

As I recall 1 gal. factory coolant ($55) and the rest distilled water.

Just watch those garage temps in the winter!

I top off or change all my cars with Prestone universal. BMW, GM, Audi, Porsche, Subaru, Jeep. Years and hundreds of thousand miles and no issues.

Actually I have looked for posts saying that the wrong coolant caused problems and I have not seen one in years.

It's a myth that Porsche genuine coolant has HUGE mark up...

Same, picked up Porsche coolant from the dealer when I did my refresh because pricing was inline with any other. Not lifetime, but given I plan to keep what I put in there for a couple years, the cost difference wasn’t worth going to anything else.
