How far will your 996 go on a tank a fuel
Hi All
I think my car is becoming more thirsty lately, just wondered what sort of mileage people are getting from a full tank of fuel to when the fuel light comes on??
Also what is the thinking behind what might be faulty ?? I was thinking maybe oxygen sensors??
Thanks everyone!

Driving conditions vary greatly. I think overall fuel consumption would be a better gauge. Around town, stop and go driving, I get somewhere between 14-15 MPG. Steady on highway (and not exceeding speed limit) I can get 23-24 MPG. Last fill up I did 188 miles on 8.4 gallons of gas, so 22 MPG. I run 93 octane with no more than 10% ethanol. Ethanol kills your gas mileage. If I thought something was outta whack, I would hook up the Durametric and read the fuel trims. Also, the MAF sensor has a lot to do with it. When was the last time it was cleaned or replaced? Any CEL's or codes popping up? Both the MAF sensor and O2 sensors are very sensitive, and are constantly monitored. If something is wrong with them, the car will definitely throw a CEL.

I generally average 13 L/100km (18mpg) in mixed driving. I have seen as low as 9.5 L/100km (25mpg) on the highway when actually doing the speed limit.
There are so many factors that go into gas mileage:
Fuel quality
Tires
Tire pressure
Traffic conditions
Ambient temperature

In 4 years I average 17-18mpg around town 22-24 highway... Long highway trips can do a little better.

I drive in LOTS of stop and go traffic (about 2/3s of my 52 mile commute) and average about 15mpg.
The parts that are not stop and go are usually 65-75mph in sixth gear.
I've found that if I drive really carefully (no spirited driving) I can bump that to 17mpg.
I took my car on a 112 mile highway drive on Saturday.
At 75-80mph in sixth gear I averaged 24mpg.

I typically just do "fun drives". So a mixture of 30-45mph speed limits while I get out of town, and then 45-75 on back roads, always fairly heavy on acceleration. Yet I average 20-22 mpg according to the car's computer.
I've seen 30 mpg on the freeway doing 80mph constant speed, but only including cruising. Once you consider getting on the freeway, etc it drops back into the mid 20s for 80mph highway and even better fuel economy if going a bit slower (75mph speed limits are typical here)

Smiles per gallon is all that matters to me. That said I mainly run 93 octane with no ethanol and seem to get acceptable mileage, for living in a mountainous part of the world.
