@SoCal911t Wow - that looks great. That was the shift **** that I was going to get, but a fellow Rennlister had a near-new factory shift **** so I bought that from him. How do you like the Continental radio? Also I need some new speakers - at least one of the front speakers in my car is blown - are you happy with your replacements?

I like all the modern features of the Continental but I think the stock Becker sounds better. The speakers are great. I used Focal 100AC in the rear and Focal ES 100 K in front. Whatever speakers you decide on, I highly recommend the Metra 71-017C 'Speaker Wiring Harnesses' from Crutchfield. It allows you to use the stock speaker plugs saving you form having to hack the stock wiring.

Love it or hate it, I went full retro with my recent reupholstering project.
Also added seat heaters controlled by factory switches, Pioneer double din, hard wired passport, dash cam, compass mirror w/ homelink, rear seat delete with subs. Just some personal upgrades.
I have have seen in this design 928s, but didn't know the 911 ever had seats like these.
sasilverbullet, how hard was it to remove the soft touch coating from the center console to prep for paint. I have heard it is difficult. I have several interior pieces I would like to paint as they are nicked and need to be refinished. I want to paint a different color to break up the interior and am not a fan of the Soft touch anyway.
Royal pain! Took quite a while. I ended up using Acetone on a rag to help loosen it up. Another hard part is sanding the plastic smooth once you get the old stuff off. The plastic has a rough surface and unless you sand it super smooth it looks crappy when you paint it.
I had practiced on the piece that snaps next to the handbrake. Then I spent a whole Saturday just doing the console.
I also took the handbrake completely off and refinished it also, that wasn't hard.
Well worth the labor! I think it looks fantastic! The pictures don't do it justice...
My center console has the leather and it all scratched up also. I wonder how hard to remove the leather?
Getting it off is not that hard, getting the new stuff on and stretched correctly is a pain. Porsche has special equipment that "thins" the back of the leather. I would pay a pro to do it.
There is some pretty cool upgrades in this thread. My upgrades were kind of done fast as I was trying to get my car back on the road and I will be revisiting them when I do my motor swap (probably next winter) but here's what I've done so far. Still making the speaker box for it and it will be black/green theme. Zoom in on the rear seats and you can see I had those reupholstered with fresh leather and green stitching to match.

Great - thank you - that tip is great on the speaker wires. One thing that I do not want to do is cut the factory wiring for either the head unit or the speakers. Still deciding to go with the Continental (quick, easy) or a double-din unit (Apple carplay). I'm not too concerned about sound quality - I have the base system with no door speakers so there are limits to what it can do.

Replaced the softtouch lower center console with an OEM wrapped one. I checked ebay (US & Germany) for about a year before I was able to find one. Easily the best upgrade you can do, imo. Stitching, color, fit and everything is perfect since it's OEM.

MOMO Race steering wheel
Pioneer AVIC 8200 double DIN sound system
New factory shift ****, tried a ball shaped one but could not get the boot to fit so I went back to stock
8” Subwoofer with custom box similar to Bose one. Sounds awesome and does not affect standard carpeting and mats
Magnetic cell phone mount This photo still shows the original wheel but you can see the head unit and sub
please tell us more about the steering wheel, haven't seen the flat bottom one before and it looks great
It came to me as a trade (+$$) from a 996 owner in California that purchased a 996 that PO installed this wheel.
He thought it to be a DCM, but in fact it was not.
I tracked down fabricators of Porsche steering wheels, matched the stitching and seams and determined it is without a doubt, Techart.
It is about an inch smaller diameter, the thickness is increased. The leather is ultra high grade, feels like you are driving with deer skin gloves.
The smaller diameter does have a negative effect on viewing the tachometer. I installed a programmable progressive shift light, the set up is really nice.
The steering wheels were offered in the Techart 996 catalogs, but at crazy pricing starting over $2000.00.
