Default Windshield Cowl Cover R&R

Hello, how difficult DIY job to replace the plastic cowling below the windshield? On my 996 it has worn and faded to grey. About $150 on Pelican website, but no "how to" article. TYVM! /X3

Buy a bottle or two of solution finish and try that. I've restored some pretty nasty looking plastic with that stuff. It might need a coat or two but its cheaper than a replacement.

Before you buy a new trim piece:

I used "Wipe New" on all the black trim on my 2002. Works like a charm. They look black with a matte finish. For $20 give it a shot.

Very very easy to replace.

All you need is a propane torch. Look up how to restore dirt bike plastics on YouTube.

OP,
Check out this thread: 2002 996 Windshield Cowl Replacement on Rennlist 07-11-17. Hardest part is discoing the washer nozzle stuff. If you buy new, don’t forget to order the two cowl panel caps. Pretty easy and satisfying project!

I did mine with black plasti-dip when I first got my car (4 years ago) - it's just starting to look a little worn again, so I'll probably hit it again in the spring...

I used Amor All Extreme Tire Shine gel on mine two years ago and it still looks great.

Try Sonax PLASTIC RESTORER GEL. I have used it for several years and keep coming back to it after trying the next great plastic treatment I read about.

This thread reminded me that a prior owner tried to clear coat -I think- the cowl on my AE and it is pealing up in places now. So I just went into the garage and hit it with the Sonax. Looks great. One would never know it was ever spayed.

My detailer took care of mine last May and it still looks great.
Mine was faded grey.
I'm not sure what he used but it sure is lasting.

I replaced my cowl last year - it’s pretty easy. The biggest advice is to be very careful with the wiper arms. I marked the position of each with painters tape before removal. That way, the arms will be perfectly aligned when you reinstall them. And don’t let them snap on the windshield.

What color is the cowl to begin with? Mine is grey and doesn't look bad on a dark blue car. If it was black originally, I'll treat mine while the car is up for the winter.

Every one I've ever seen is black, and apparently it is only offered in black. See here http://www.autoatlanta.com/porsche-p...section=813-20
