Hopefully I don't get flamed for suggesting this like I did on the 991 forum...
Nope you shouldn't! However, I did notice your headlights are kinda funny looking though...

Just my way of politely addressing to the OP of making things overly complicated a simple trickle charge process.

Why not just connect directly to the battery? Or add a lead from the battery to a convenient location - Battery Tender makes some decent ones with SAE connectors.
+996 just connect the charger directly to the battery - as other have stated thats just to open the frunk/rear in the event your battery has died.

Also never jump from that point or directly at the battery - always use the terminals in the engine bay - positive on the + in the plastic box and the negative on the air box holder bolt.

Left side of the driver's seat, on the door sill. Get an owner's manual - lots of pictures.

I bought a black and decker trickle charger from Walmart. Came with three different attachments. One of them was conveniently a cigarette lighter adapter. 6 or 12 volt with auto shut off to prevent overcharging. 20 bucks and done.

CTEK makes the Porsche charger and they have a cigarette lighter attachment, besides charging it will also recondition the battery. The CTEK version is cheaper than the Porsche, its available on Amazon.

Quoted for emphasis. A trickle charge and a battery maintainer (aka float charger) are similar but different animals.
If the battery is dead or low and needs to be charged overnight or over a period of days, a trickle charger is the best best.
If the battery is to be on a charger for a prolonged period of time like winter storage, a maintainer is needed.

Yes, I know people tend to use these terms interchangeably. I think this is unfortunate and perhaps even dangerous should an unsophisticated but well-meaning Porsche owner attempt to trickle charge his/her car for the winter. Batteries don't like that.

Most, if not all, maintainers start off with a trickle charge and then go into maintenance / float mode when battery is charged.

I use a Battery Tender Jr that I picked up from WalMart for under $30.
I hardwired the pigtail to the battery and added an extension from Amazon.
I ran it up to the cowl and it is hidden behind the cover over one of the mounting screws.
I hook up the tender when I'm not going to be driving my car for a few days. (Usually long weekends that are booked with family time)
I have pigtails on all of my vehicles, and I have a couple of Battery Tender Jrs.

I aslo purchased and installed one for my in-laws.(86 & 78)
She(78) only drives them both once every other week so she was opening their hood and putting their battery on an ancient large charger the day before they planned on driving somewhere.
Now with the pigtail and outlet nearby she always has their car lugged in when parked.
I need to install an outlet overhead and get an electrical reel like I have to make it easier for her to plug in their car.
