Well I paid less than most 996 were selling for in 2017 so I thought I got a good deal, but it was 75% off MSRP.
Just wait until I tell my family what a "shrewd negotiator" I am!

Same here. I felt bad about the PO of my "roller" I bought for $4K he paid $17K if I recall (8 or 9 years ago) and put just over $20K into it before the timing chain snapped and took out the motor...After months of trying to sell it for $8K and claiming "it could be something simple" to fix and he never tried to restart it. I offered him $5K knowing he'd already bought a 2017 Boxter and just wanted it gone. I then pressed him about trying to restart it and he came clean.

JR told me not to pay more than $4K and that's what I did thinking this would be a long (1 year) project to get the funds together for a rebuild. I couldn't stand looking at it not being driven so I took a chance on a 50K mile factory replacement pulled from a part out for $6K, Best roll of the dice I ever!

That was a good decision even if the engine didn't last.
You could drive it for a year while rebuilding the original engine.
Since it sounds like you got one in excellent shape, it gives you more time to rebuild the original, or save up for an FSI engine.

You were closer than me. next time I'm in Katy, beer's on me. (but you have to come west to claim!)

If it had aero it would have been in my garage next month.

Edit: Wow, reserve not met. Well, um - ok, NEXT.
