Bought a 996 Today
This is my first post - long time lurker here. Just purchased a new (to me) 1999 cabrio, black over black. Very excited as this is my first Porsche - have had MB’s, Audi’s, VW’s and my daily driver is a BMW but no Porsches despite having wanted one for 40+ years.
Here are some details - 71,500 miles, very good condition but will require some heavy detailing to bring it up to my acceptable level. Very well maintained, but original IMS and clutch, so that is being done this week. The interesting thing about this car is that it was ordered with literally no options, although at some point a set of 18” sport technic wheels were installed along with a CD changer. So pretty basic 911, and a very early production car as well. Looking forward to getting it back and driving it!
I’m sure that I will be asking many dumb questions to those in the know about these cars!

Congratulations! Lightly optioned '99s seem to be very desirable.

My 99 has strange options, only look good parts. No go fast parts. ( Carbon fiber shift ****...)

Congrats! Enjoy it, less things to worry about.

Don't be silly carbon fiber shift ***** add 30-40 hp! Unlike the carbon fiber handbrake which takes away 50-60 hp! Umm, you don't have both do you?

No problem sharing - paid $17,000 knowing that it needed IMS, RMS and clutch. Also doing the sway bar links while there. Did not expect to have to buy a set of tires but they were pretty well cracked, so will end up with about $21,000 total in the car. Will still need to do the driver's seat backrest - the stitches have separated - not sure what that will cost. So in to the car for a little more than I wanted but plan to keep it long term. Would have been happier to be under $20K all in, but it seems like a solid enough car.

Thank you! Will post some pictures when it gets out of the detail shop. Will have to take them quick - nothing like buying a black car in the middle of winter. Not that I plan to drive it in the snow, but the dust and dirt seem to collect this time of year...
