Bose amp has (almost) no sound
The Bose amp in my 02 C2 will sometimes be ok, other times it will just play a faint clicking sound, but no music. There is no be pattern to when it acts up. It may go months without a problem and then go out for a day or two. My aftermarket sub amp always comes on and plays and I also have a different headunit than when the problem first occurred. Any ideas what the problem could be?

Is this the power amp? And are you sure it is a Bose product? The head unit in the CDR23 "MOST" system is a Becker product. My power amp (2003 C2; since replaced) doesn't have any markings on it. I have real doubts that it is a Bose product. My guess would be Becker. Without going off on a tangent about speaker quality, I think the only Bose products in that system are the speakers.
My advice would be to upgrade the power amp.

My car has Bose speakers so I assumed it was a Bose amp. It's just the one I've usually seen in pictures of the frunk. I might upgrade the amp, but I want to see what others have experienced before I do that.

When it acts up again, check to see if you have 12V input.
Also check for a bad ground.
Check it when it is on, so there's a load.

I have an 02 996 with the exact same issue - radio sound cuts off and is replaced by a clicking noise from the speakers - curious if you were able to track down the cause.
thanks.

And I have to correct my earlier post, which was wrong. The CDR23 head unit is a Becker product, but it plays into a Bose amp. I recommend replacing both. IMO they are the weak link in that system, not the speakers. This opinion may be a minority view.

The BOSE amps experience the same problems as the HAES and Nokia amplifiers on these cars. Unlike the head unit, the amplifiers are exposed to higher levels of moisture which in turn negatively affects the life of the amp over time more so than amps that are located in a more climate-controlled area of the car. IMHO, your amplifier could be giving you a sign it's time for a replacement. That's what I experience on BOTH of my Porsche 996 cars.

Thank you guys for taking the time to reply. It is likely the amp as you suggested. I’ve already replaced the head unit with a pioneer AVIC.
Do you have a recommended amplifier replacement? I don’t have any plans on switching out the speakers.
Thank you.

2. I installed an Alpine MRVV500 ($350), but that was five years ago. Most power amps have 5 channel output, with the sub output needing 2 ohms of resistance. The "sub" in the CDR23 coupe involves two downward firing 5 1/4" drivers, each of which provides one ohm. Those two drivers are wired in parallel, which works fine with the stock power amp. If you upgrade to a unit that has a 2 ohm sub output, have the sub drivers re-wired in series, and the resistance will match. You will be "short" two power outputs. I disconnected the speakers beside the rear seats. They are not missed. Have someone who knows what they are doing get the crossovers dialed in, and you should be pleased with the result.
