Fabspeed Exhaust Drone Help.

Hi all. I recently purchased a 996 from a private owner who took beautiful care of the car. Service records are all with receipts including RMS and IMS bearings replaced 10k miles ago. The paint and everything is good but what I am most concerned are the fabspeed exhaust the car has on it. Don't get me wrong, it sounds great but the drone below 3k rpm is just horrific. I plan on driving it as a daily driver and the drone is near unbearable. Are there any fixes besides just throwing a new exhaust on there as that is quite expensive.
Thanks!

My 2004 AE has Fister (https://fdmotorsports.net/) exhaust which is a professional variant of the “Gundo” mod that is popular. It makes the exhaust tones more powerful especially under power, but at idle and low load (think tooling around town or at constant freeway speeds) it’s like stock. No drone at any speed or rev range.

My my suggestion is return it to stock or go with Fister. Yes there is a cost but in the world of 996 those two options aren’t too bad.

Sell it and buy used stock mufflers and gundo them. Will sound amazing and you might pocket some $$

Check your motor mounts. I had some minor drone on new Dansk mufflers. I changed my worn mounts and the drone disappeared.

I will try and go to a mechanic shop to see if the previous owner had a muffler delete or cat removed etc. Would resonator tips work?

Are they fabspeed Supercups….that is what I had trouble with. When I went to maxflo the drone went away.

Don't drive under 3K, just keep the revs up and its better for the motor!

Does it has OEM headers? If not I would start there and put back a set of original exhaust manifolds and see if the drone-linked frequencies of the exhaust shifts more to a frequency band where the mufflers attenuate better or it resonates less.

I have Maxflow and there's not a bad drone.
I also daily drive mine 52 miles.

SuperCup or muffler deletes might not be so DD friendly.

"I have Maxflow and there's not a bad drone."

^^This^^ - Fabspeed makes many products. "Fabspeed exhaust" is a little general. FWIW I found my maxflo mufflers were a little more "droney" with the stock headers as opposed to the Agency Headers I have on my car now. Even so, it was nowhere near what I would consider bad or unbearable...perhaps a nice Camry would be appropriate for you? Doh! - just kidding

Contact FS and see what they suggest. I had this issue when the 3rd gen HEMI came out and we where dealing with Magnaflow. They revised they're design and created an x-pipe to fix the issue.

If they are supercups, I'd trade ya my factory mufflers ;)

Hey guys, Scott here from Fabspeed, sorry you're not in love with your Fabspeed set up. Any idea what system you have? 996 take to the Maxflo's very nicely, the Supercup is a bit more aggressive. We typically recommend the Supercup for more track use, however many of my customers like either one for daily driving. Take a look under your car and let me know what system you have, I'll reach out and PM you directly!

I run the Maxflo, header, and catless X-pipe as well with zero droning issues - so I'd guess you're probably looking at Super Cups.

I wish there were an 'in between' between the SC and MF series of muffler.

Hi! Because the owner I bought the car from recently passed away, I have no idea what fabspeed he has on nor if he had mufflers take out etc. I will bring it to a mechanic and let him check it out and get back to you! I love how it sounds and would love to drive with it, however as a daily driver, the drone just isn't practical! Ill keep you posted!
