Default Clanging noise in the front struts on Bilstein PSS9s - upper mounts?

Hi all,

I have a 996 C2 lowered on PSS9s. As of about a month ago, the front has begun developing a clanging noise when driving over uneven surfaces. PSS9s were installed ~2 years ago, so it's been some time. Took it to the mechanic today - he lifted the car and when tugging laterally on the wheel (i.e. perpendicular to car motion), if you put the ear to the body, you can hear a knocking sound. He's suggesting to replace the both upper mounts (it's unclear where the sound is coming from - but it seems evenly distributed).

- is this really the upper mount, or should I be looking at some rubber padding where the PSS9s mount? (I feel like I saw a thread on this somewhere)
- do I need any special upper mounts for PSS9, or will more or less "anything" do?

Thanks!

So my indy thinks it's the upper mount indeed, so I guess I should switch those and see what happens.

Do I need any special upper mounts for PSS9s, or will OEM / some similar ones work?

There's a video,
. describes and remedies front suspension noise on a 996. May or may not be your issue. At 4:00 on video.

Stock C2 topmounts are not expensive - I think around $125 ea. The labor won’t be cheap, but it’s a fairly simple DIY if you’re up to it... I’d imagine to have your Indy do it, it’ll be in the $550 - $700 range.

I see. No garage ... so guess it’s indy time. Will stock mounts fit PSS9s, and should I go non stock?

You can go with adjustable “camber plates” - which will be more expensive (usually around $4-500 per set). But they’re usually “mono *****” which tend to be a little “clunky” over certain types of bumps as well...

Yeah probably don’t need camber plates quite yet. Would OEM 997 top mounts fit as well? To see if I can broaden my search.
