Is everyone else's SAI pump super loud?
When I first bought my car I couldn't hear the SAI pump at all. Then the bearing started to chirp and the dealer replaced it with a new pump under warranty. The new pump is so loud it sounds like a vacuum cleaner! It's been like this for years and I've gotten used to it, but I wonder if everyone else's is like this.

Mine is somewhat loud, but I think it sounds like it's supposed to. No high pitched squealing. Just the vacuum cleaner sound. Must noticable when stopped or driving slowly. Only runs for two minutes or so.

Mine is not loud. I have to roll the windows down and specifically listen to be able to hear it. I have a ‘99 and I suspect the pump is original to the car. I don’t even really notice it much at all.

Thanks everyone for the followup. It sounds like experiences are mixed and maybe porsche has had different batches of pumps?
My car's a MK2 and started with the quiet pump so maybe more about date or batch than model?
You're right that it only runs for 2 min, so not a big deal. Sometimes when coming to a stop after some high RPM's (e.g. at the end of a highway offramp) the pump will come on for a few seconds and then stop, prompting my passenger to ask, "what the heck is that?"

On mine I could definitely hear it run, but I discovered when I removed it to replace my motor mounts recently that it may not have been seated correctly. Upon reinstalling it, I made sure it was seated correctly in the rubber mounts underneath. That made all the difference. I think before it was touching the body work somewhere underneath. Now it is just a gentle whir and is barely noticeable.

That is the self test. It runs when cold to warm the cats, and then once the o2’s are warm and reading it will run again briefly when brought back to an idle to check the plumbing/see the o2’s go lean.
