Default Very Strange Experience

Brothers, on my way driving from the office I experienced a very strange issue, whereby I lost traction (even though I have AWD) - I just mounted new Tires - Cont-Extreme Contact - as I tried to go from 2nd to 3rd then all the buzzers start, ABS, Brake error, most likely a sensor - since then, I feel the C4S doesn't have the traction - in so many years I never experience this before. Any thoughts or ideas are greatly appreciated.

Always go back to the last thing you did - new tires. What tire sizes did you have put on? What were your previous tires? And like asked, was there any chance of ice or was the road wet? I have heard (not experienced) that a faulty MAF sensor can wreak havoc with the ABS. Any CEL or codes?

Assuming it wasn’t ice or something else on the road, such as oil or coolant, new tires sometimes have oily compounds from manufacturing that exude from them when new. This is one reason why I’m careful when driving on new tires.

I would also also double check air pressures in case one is leaking or they filled to the wrong spec.

New tires have a coating on them to allow them to release cleanly from their molds during manufacturing. The mold-release coating is very slick, and it reduces traction for the first few hundred miles until it wears off the tires. This could be your issue.

One thing may not be what it is but make sure if the tires are directional, it is mounted on the correct side. A friend of mine mounted his bike tires backward and on dry road it wasn't much difference but the moment he drives over wet surface or railroad track it slips. He was blaming the tires until we pointed out the arrow on the tires is pointing backward, he fliped it and it worked as intended.

No ice, just rain, I can only assume it is the new tires, same size as the Cup 2 Tires I had on prior. What was very strange, was the way the engine response was bucking, the only changes I have done in the last 30 days were: New Tires (Confirmed Air Pressure), Oil Change, New OEM Motor Mounts. Other than that, She runs perfectly.

Are the 4 tires the same brand and model?

I have seen this type of problems before on other german cars (mainly BMW) when you change dimensions, mix brands or models, put directionals or even just when they are brand new.

I would suggest you to play a little with the pressure and give some tradewear to the tires and see how it evolves.

Porsche recommends driving at moderate speeds for the first 120 miles on new tires.

Less traction or total loss? My gut tells me that this isn't actually a tire issue, especially since you mention it being a problem in higher gears. Is it possible your clutch is slipping or you're having an issue with the traction control system?

Did you add a new sticker to your car perhaps? The horsepower gains from a new sticker can take some getting used to.

What felt like engine bucking was probably the traction control applying brakes to the spinning wheel.

if the installer used a ton of the lubricant when installing, the tires can actually slip and rotate on the wheels.

If you have a problem where the tire sizes are not right, it will throw a code (been there) and you'll have ABS and PSM failures in the dash.

I did not think Continental made tires in the OEM size for the C4S. Perhaps posting the tire sizes could also help us diagnose your issue.
