Default Porsche 996 Oil Pan Skid Plate - mine is missing

Hey Porsche Fans,

Do you have the oil pan skid plate on your 996? Mine is missing and I was wondering if I should replace it. Thoughts?

That is not a oem part, most owners don't have that.

Frankly that skid pan just makes a mess of things. I took mine off due to the amount of crap and oil it traps.

U could leave it off and a speed bump orr rr track can do this to your motor.

my 2002 has a skid plate. It wasn’t on the car from the factory, but it is a porsche branded part. With an extended sump and x74 suspension height, it is a valuable addition.

I put a 2 quart deep sump on my 99 recently. Spend the $300 on the skid plate if you install one. The sump is now the lowest point at the rear of my car. I have scraped the skid plate several times all ready.

Same. When I first got the LN kit, their skid plates were not fitting (they sent me 2, both did not fit). I was super paranoid driving the car, especially with curbing on the track. Finally got a used skid plate, put it on before my last event. I was out playing in the rain, and spun, and backed up over the curbing that had a drop. The skid plate saved me.

On a car using a stock pam, you are a bit more safe.

Interesting responses. So is it safe to say that a 996 with stock height, no deep sump and only being used on the public roads does not really need it?

Works for me. I slow down over speed bumps, don't track and try not to spin out on the streets of my town. Haven't had any problems since 2014.

Mine came without one and it was one of my first purchases.
About 6 months ago I was pulling into a parking lot. (Micro Center in Houston)
To do so I had to cross over some roadwork.
My car bottomed out in the rear due to the incline.
The next time I changed the oil I found some fairly deep scratches on the bottom of the skid plate.
I had to REALLY think back to when it could have happened.
It likely saved me that day.
I'm going to put the 2qt deep sump on my car during the next oil change and will be buying the LN skid plate that's designed for the deep sump.
I'll have a used and scratched skid plate for sale in a couple of months.
