Default Introduction

Greetings. My name is Remy

I bought my 2000 996 at auction principally as way to bond with my brother over his love of everything Porsche. From my Audi S6 to my current AMG I have always been interested in performance vehicles. But I have never owned a Porsche (kids and all). I get it now.

Here is the car I purchased.
https://bringatrailer.com/listing/20...11-carrera-17/

My first Porsche lesson was that the premium for a well sorted car is probably worth it. Including everything I have done, I certainly could have purchased a newer nicer car. But this one is mine now and I love it.

Since buying the car, I have done a lot of work. Some of it has been on my own with my son (immensely rewarding) and some with the aid of a mechanic. I live in Wyoming so experienced help can sometimes be hard to come by. Lurking on this forum has been very helpful.

So, since purchase I have done the following to my car...

Spark Plugs
Transaxle Fluid Change
Oil Change
Brake Fluid Flush
Air Filter
Microfilter
Fuel Filter
Hood Struts
Drive Belt and Tensioners
Function First engine mounts
Function First transmission mount plugs
New cigarette Lighter (usa standard)
New battery (5/3/18)
Fixed console lid with metal hinge
Changed interior lights to LED
Changed license plate lights to LED
Changed frunk light to LED
Replaced headlights with Litronic built from salvaged parts
New wipers
Removed front license plate holder and fill holes with “bumper plugs”
New windshield
Replaced reverse sensor on transmission
New fuel cap
Continental Radio Install
Leatherique Conditioning
New Tires
Wheels completely refinished
Oil and Filter Change
IMS Retrofit Kit
Flywheel
Pressure Plate
Clutch Dish
Throwout Bearing
Pilot Bearing
Pivot Arm Clutch
Air Oil Separator
Clutch Bolts
Flywheel Bolts
Cam Plugs
Rear Main Seal
Transmission Mount
Spring Clutch
Power Steering Fluid
Rennline Front Bumper Vent Mesh
IPD plenum
MAF
New brake discs pads and sensors
Oil filler tube

Next up is suspension and then I think I should be pretty damn happy. I am leaning toward Ohlins.

Here are some picsfrom my recent drive out to California to join my brother for Rennsport. Should be fun!

Colors are changing in Wyoming

Welcome and very nice example of a 996! Good call on suspension being next. Add spacers or wheels with proper offset and you will be looking great!

Welcome! Amazing ton of work you did to it! I like that you put mesh over the front intakes. I did that also and folks here gave me grief for it, but everyday I brush gunk of the mesh that would have been in the radiators.

Hey Splitting Atoms, sometimes I wonder that myself. It's been way more work than I expected. But it is a joy now that things are really humming!

Looks like you got a great deal! Don't let the people on the forums get to you about the work you put into your car. You must have thick skin around these parts. I've learned that personally. One thing I really like about your car is the original 17" turbo twist wheels. Now, many people would say you should upgrade to the 18" turbo twist or even a 19" wheel, but I personally think they work perfect on the Mk1 996. I not sure if it's the roundness of the cars front and rear bumpers, but they really look nice and complete with these cars. Hope you get many years out of this car and enjoy the bond you have with your brother. Life is too short. Spend as much time as you can afford with family and friends.
