What year did PSM become standard?
Was speaking with some other 996 owners at a recent track day, and all have PSM in their cars. Apparently it was an option on earlier cars, but everybody seemed to think it was standard after the facelift (996.2), but mine does not have it. No delete option code, just not there. Was PSM standard on 996.2 or an option?

All the AWD 996 cars have it, as I recall.

2002 C2 Order guide lists it as an option. I also recall it was included on .2 (possibly all?) 996 awd cars and the option is not listed on the C4S order guide.. Standard on my 2001 996 Turbo...

It definitely saved my butt when I encountered a lawn chair on the Garden State Parkway while I was doing 70 mph+. I can't understand why anyone wouldn't want it.

I find it is indeed good to have - I've been an instructor for Porsche and many others for 10+ years with 100s of track days. Not necessary (or even annoying) for an experienced driver on the race track, but can be a life saver, especially against hydroplaning/quick spin on the street.
Standard on ALL AWD 996s (which includes turbos), optional on C2s starting in model year 2000 (along with the switch to e-throttle on all 996 cars), not available on the GT2/3. I believe it was also standard on the 40th anniversary cars, albeit with revised tuning and the LSD. Prior to 2000, 996s were cable throttle and had a more primitive traction control system.
Reason why someone may not want it - even when off, it intervenes under braking. Annoying when trying to rotate the car under braking. I believe one can ground the yaw sensor (possibly on a switch) to keep this from happening. If I track my current C2 (which is equipped with PSM), I may attempt this and report back.
