Default M96 Porsche factory short engines, price reduction

I spotted a tiny little article in this months Total 911 magazine that might be of interest to anyone considering an engine build on their 996.
The article at the foot of page 10 suggests that Porsche have reduced the price of short motors by almost 50%

They are now available, according to the article, for £3,500 direct from Porsche.
At first glance this looks like a sea change in not only the cost of a rebuild but also a welcome boost for the future values of 996 cars as the spectre of failed engines making the car itself valueless is significantly lessened.

Thought it was a nice bit of news for 996 owners.

$4,500 US, does that include pistons & heads?

Ah, that would just be $4600.
That's great news.
Now if they would just reduce all their other parts by that much, I'd be even happier.

Short block would include entire lower assembly (pistons, rods, crankshaft, etc), but not heads, waterpump, sensors...
Also, is that for 2.5l, 2.7l, 3.2l, 3.4l, 3.6l?
I'm guessing it is for one of the smaller engines.

I wonder if this route would be cheaper if your engine literally blew up (crankshaft, block, pistons, rods, camshafts, head, valves....). I have no heads and this is all that's left of my engine. White box has the intake manifold.

Without usable heads, it would likely be cheaper to purchase a longblock.

I wonder with this price reduction if we will see a continuation of 996 paranoia. Sales ads may soon read like this:

”IMS, RMS, and AOS done, car comes with new short block just in case...”

Should probably add to ad -> "And it's a cable frunk release, so you're not stranded without a short block if the battery dies".
