Default 997 airbox in 996?

From another thread, I saw mention of using a 997 air box in a 996 for the visual appeal.
has anyone done this?
Do you have pics and or a guide to do it?
Is there any other reason to do it? does it breathe better?

Thanks!
Gopher

From what I've read it's just a cosmetic upgrade more than anything. Like the curl on a pig's tail... doesn't add any more pork to the pig.

I think the pig would differ.

My 996 has a 3.8 997.1 airbox....however, it also has a 3.8 997 engine in it as well.

The 997.2 airbox will not fit...tried that as well.

I did it in my car and it was plug and play. Looking at the innards of both boxes, it *seems* like the 997 box has better flow and more volume.

SoCal911t, am I right that you still used hte 996 snorkel? It fits in the 997 box correctly and lines up with the spoiler inlet? What about the MAF, can you use your old one or do you need a 997-specific one to fit the box?

The MAF was plug & play. I used the 996 snorkel. For the intake boot, i used the 997 one. I don't remember if it was because the 996 one wouldn't fit or I just thought it looked better. The 996 air filter element was also a direct fit.

I can confirm the 997s (3.8) airbox fits MkII but you have to relocate the SAI pump to the left a bit with a customized SAI pump bracket. MAF and filter transfer directly.

I used the bracket from EVOM but didn't like it because the SAI pump was much louder.

+996 looks great

Be interested to know if it does indeed flow/breathe better. I recall a thread where Jake mentioned the 3.8S airbox is the one to get if you're wanting to change. He mentioned it gave a little more power at the very top end - don't quote me as thats from a vague recollection.
