I don't have any experience with it - just what I remember reading.

I chose just to leave it open. Some people have mentioned gluing it shut but it has a strong spring attached to the flap.

Unless you have the optional PSE, it is not easy to do on the 996 from what I can tell. The flap in the airbox is controlled by the PSE system.

My mistake. It is vacuum actuated but it is electronically controlled through the DME. According to Renntech, it is a 7.8x DME from the 997.2 which of course would not work in the 996 without serious modifications. I have also read where people have glued the flap shut to gain the noise.

How do you sort out the Tiptronic, that need some air, just install a breather on the end?

My 996 came with a K&N intake...would like to switch to this. Great to know it's a direct drop in. My previous smog inspector gave me a hard time about it, even with the CARB approval sticker on the intake!

It’s a direct drop , but you may have to loosen the air pump bolts and rotate it ten degrees , takes 15 mins
you might not have to do this if a 996 snorkel is mated to the air box but will if you use the 997 snorkel

I have started the change now, used 1 hour and not even close to completing. The main screw is hard to fasten, the snorkel bumps into the pump on the left.
will remove the pump and change the angle and see if it fits. So far it's not even close...

My personal experience is you won't be able to fit a 3.8 airbox on a 996.2 unless you relocate the SAI bump (an inch or so to the left) with a custom bracket (such as the one from EVOM). You may be able to fit the airbox using a 996 snorkel but I have not tried so can't confirm.
