This is just my personal opinion, but I hate the looks of the new 992!
I think I’m not going to be alone either.

I think the grill makes the rear window too long, but other than that, I am ok with it. I would paint the grill body color. Wouldn't surprise me if Porsche ends up having that as an option.

Looking at it from all perspectives I don't see anything that strikes me as fugly.
However, under the skin, the steady march of technology is a little troubling. I prefer simple to complex and the newer cars' Achilles heel has always been increased difficulty maintaining them when things break.
One of the techs at our dealer put it this way, when something serious breaks it's time to trade it in on a new car. He specifically mentioned Audi was moving toward planned obsolescence with their cars, which makes sense with the rapidly tightening emissions standards.
According to my dealer, in 7 to 8 years Porsche expects 55% of their new cars to not have an internal combustion engine.

In my opinion, the purist will always find fault(s) in the newest model. The 996 being the top of the list of "rock the boat" designs. It appears that Porsche continues to make the 911 fatter looking. Bigger is one thing, but if Porsche goes down the 718 route of eliminating the Flat 6 engine, I think that will be the straw on the camel's back for many of the faithful followers. Hopefully it won't happen, but it could. Don't hold your breath.

I’m actually really looking forward to the launch of the 992. If history repeats (it will), the 991 cars will become raw and visceral. They’ll be the last real 911, and the perfect balance of technology and driving feel. The 992 will be too big, too fat, nothing more than a rich man’s GT toy.
In all seriousness though, it’s hard to judge the 992 based on an artist’s rendering. I’ll have to see the new 992 in person before I decide if I like it or not.

I don't understand the designers of so many cars flattening the wheel arches. One of the beautiful touches on older Porsches is the beautiful curves of the wheel arches as they hug the tires. Might be a strength thing or an aerodynamic thing but so many cars today have this design cue. Otherwise I have no problems with the evolving design of the 911. They have to keep the older owners interested after all. But I am 100% with those who believe that without the flat 6 engine then I might lose interest. Looking forward to seeing the actual cars.

I don't like the roof being black (black roof wraps are for beat-up cars with peeling clearcoat) but whatever it's what cars look like these days. Car manufacturers build cars for New Car Buyers. If you have enough money to buy a new 911, chances are you don't have good taste anyways.

I actually don't mind the rear end as much as I don't like the front, every iteration they smush the front down more and more and make it more like a regular car.
I'm sure it's for aerodynamics but they could make the energy savings elsewhere to keep it's 911ness intact
