Default Hold alarm button down does not open windows. What could it be?

So I read over on the 996 sticky Thread about things that are cool about our cars about how you can hold the button down and the windows will open. That does not work on my car. Any idea what the cause could be?

holding the key in the unlocked position doesn't work either.

It’s done by putting key in drivers side lock and rotating to the right and holding to close and lock or left to open and unlock.

I could be wrong but I think holding the key in the lock position in the door only closes the windows. I don't think holding it in the open position not opens them...

The owners manual will have the answer

No, both directions work. Turn counterclockwise and hold to unlock and roll windows down, clockwise and hold to lock and roll windows up. It's not doable from the remote though, only by turning the key in the door.

For a Cab, that method opens and closes the top along with the windows. Out of curiosity I tried it on my VW Beetle and it works the same. Might be a German thing.

My Cab will open the windows and top. But it will only close the top, not the windows. I have seen info that there was another key option that was a 3 button key that would do the same by holding the button. But that option never came to the USA even though my owners manual reflects it. Atleast thats what i have researched.

Curious about this. I thought my cab should close the top and windows with the key in the door. But no? I watched a lady exit a 997 cab and do this so some cars must have this capability.

hmmm, my 02 Cab (with a 2-button key) is able to lower/raise the top and windows. Maybe the dealer can "program" this feature?

The remote function doesn't come into play in this procedure, so it doesn't matter how many buttons the fob has.

We were talking about the buttons because of my comment about the owners manual. My manual (for a USA car) shows the option for a 3 button remote that the 3rd button is soley for opening and closing the top. We all agree that it seems that the only function is for the key to be used in the door lock while turning. We all question why is it some cars will open and close the tops and windows while some cars (like mine) will open the top and windows yet will only close the top but NOT the windows. And further, why would my owners manual reflect a 3 button option that wasnt available in the states.

My '04 Touareg does the same - so I guess the Cayennes do too. Pretty useful in hot weather.
