3.4? 3.6?

I think there was one for sale recently.

Lots of talk about short blocks as well being (relatively) affordable.

How lost is the motor? I'm looking for a rebuild candidate to practice on. PM me if you think it's worth the shipping to Texas.

What year?

I have a 2000 C2 with a 107K mile motor in it, that I'm selling, but would drop the motor out of to sell separately.

It is fully serviced with a new AOS, RMS, belt, plugs, tubes, gaskets, dual mass flywheel, clutch, pressure plate, etc.

I'd sell the motor alone for $9K, you are welcome to come drive the car before we drop the motor out. I'll just part the rest out.

I'd also sell the whole car for $16K. It has a Bilstein PSS10 suspension, M030 sway bars, new brake rotors, pads and sensors, etc, etc. Note: the 2nd gear synchro is going out, so 3-2 downshifts grind unless done at low RPMs. I have the synchro parts.

And if you are looking for a long block to practice on, drop me a line. I have the 134K mile 3.4 engine that came out of the car (D-chunk failure) and would sell the assembly, and any or all parts/accessories. Make me a reasonable offer. Pick up in Vermont only.

That cabrio engine is a steal. The motor in my car came from these guys, Mike is honest, fair, and totally legit. I've also bought a ton of other parts from him for both of my cars. I'd buy another motor (or any other part) from him again in a heartbeat.

OP: I recently had a Porsche factory short block installed in my 2003 Targa, very happy with result. Trophy Performance in Las Vegas, NV did the work with short block from Porsche and they told me although it was sold as a rebuilt, all the parts were new. 2 year factory warranty as well. I would say this is worth investigating if you plan on keeping the car.

I have this rebuilt 2001 engine for sale. https://rennlist.com/forums/boxster-...-for-sale.html.

You will need to drill & tap some holes in the heads to mount in a 996

Curious if you know what type of IMS bearing the factory 3.4 short block comes with. Is it dual-row and is it reinforced over the original?

I have been sourcing all of my parts from Norspec Dismantling. Talk to Oleg (the owner) or Danny...he has videos of engine running and even provides some sort of warrantee I think. I think they may have a 996 motor but they go fast. THey also have a few turbo motors if you want to go crazy.

I've also had good luck with parts from Norspec. I'd recommend them as well.

Wow, if nothing else I'm sure getting a lot of places to look for parts should something like this ever happen to me. I'm hoping the OP is getting the help he looked for... R.

i recently installed one of the factory short blocks. It comes with the "large" single row IMSB used on all m96/m97 engines from Porsche from 06 up. This bearing requires splitting the case to replace, but also has a very low failure rate. Generally, the only recommended maintenance of this bearing by the experts is to remove the seal at the time of clutch replacement to allow engine oil to enter the bearing.
