Oil pump replacement

hi all

is it necessary to remove all 3 chain tensioners before removing the oil pump (main pump) or is it enough just to remove the bank 2 tensioner?

Why do you think you need to change your oil pump??

The pump is rattling at idle when warm. I have the cover of and can see is is starting to wear out.
thats why I will change it.

That seems quite unusual, can you post pics? as far as I know the pump is very reliable, unless it ingests garbage and gets damaged

Could the rattling really be the IMSB? The pump is driven off the shaft.

It was enough just to remove bank 2 chain tensioner. I locked the crankshaft just in case.

So, was the pump damaged? I had mine out this winter, they are pretty robust. I think I'd be checking filter and dropping sump. If you find anything there, pull the transmission and check that IMS.

I too would like to see what a damaged oil pump looks like. Have you dropped the sump and inspected your oil filter?
As others have said IMSB would be my main concern!

Nothing observed in oil filter and the pump had only minor surface scratches on end plate and opposite side of the two pump gears.

Then the rattling must be something else. Are you sure it's coming from the pump, maybe a pulley bearing? Lets us know what you find.

soren.911 08-10-2018 04:21 PM

Yes it was from the pump. It is now rattle free after replacement. I had also expected more wear inside to make it rattle like it did.

Glad to hear it's all good to go.
