I highly recommend before you make a final decision on shop selection you visit with Mike at MTech Motorsports in New Rochelle (lower Westchester County). He is extremely knowledgeable, honest, reasonably priced and just a good guy. He knows his way around earlier air cooled models as well as 996 and up cars. He won’t sell you something you don’t need.
Give him a shot, I bet you won’t be disappointed.

I live in Manhattan and take my '89 964 C4 to Carrera Car Shop in Huntington, NY. https://www.yelp.com/biz/carrera-car...ington-station

They do a great job. Totally obsessed with quality restoration and maintenance.

I've met and spoken to Richie from Lynmore at a PCA event. He seemed very knowledgeable and was just really nice and accommodating - no attitude or arrogance. I haven't had any work done there, but if I had to go to a shop I'd be comfortable with them.

I had them replace my alternator with a Bosch about 2 years ago and it was quick and reasonable.
