Brumos/Hurley Haywood window sticker

My 996 was originally a dealer demonstrator at Brumos Porsche in Jacksonville. We all know the story around this legendary dealership (hard to believe that the new owner shed the Brumos name, as it's now Fields Jacksonville Porsche!!). Hurley Haywood has had a long standing relationship with the dealership dating back to the Peter Gregg days, and when they delivered a car that Hurley had driven, they affixed a sticker to the windshield attesting to Hurley's seat time. There was evidence that there once was a sticker on my '02 car (you could still barely see the outline....), so I set out to recreate the sticker on my PC and the result is fantastic.

I used static-cling film sold by Papilio that can be used in an ink jet printer. I found a picture of an original, intact sticker and used it for reference, along with the general dimensions from the shadow on my windshield. First, I created the decal and saved it as a JPEG. I then reversed the photo to have it read backwards, and printed it on the film. One good coat of Krylon white spray paint for plastics (flexible) provided the white background, and the results are perfect.

In the event your car is/was a Brumos car, I made a few extra stickers that I'm willing to share. https://cimg6.ibsrv.net/gimg/rennlis...073de03480.jpg

Wow...this is super cool....especially since coincidentally I posted what I did with my car that was a tribute to my late friend Bruce Leven who was a car owner (Bayside Disposal) for Hurley (and others) in the 70s and 80s.
Check out post #20 https://rennlist.com/forums/996-foru...6-today-2.html
In fact my car is signed by Bruce

I wouldn't mind one of these stickers....

Pop me a PM with your address and I'll shoot one out to you. You'll need a steady hand with an Xacto knife or a really great pair of scissors to cut it out. It is a static cling and I used a pair of latex gloves to apply it and a microfiber towel to squeeze out the bubbles.

We all remember Bruce and the Bayside Disposal cars back when IMSA was at the top of their game...

My car still has the sticker on it. It was sold at Brumos Porsche in April or May of 1998 (the first date in the service book is May 1998).https://cimg9.ibsrv.net/gimg/rennlis...90beb315c4.jpg

This explains why mine was gone...

Even though the sticker is a little ragged around the edges, the previous owner and I thought it was a pretty cool piece of history, so we left it as is.

Mine has 15yrs of patina.😎 53k miles, and i think original windshield. Not sure it can be saved if need to replace.

Keep the original, the patina is sweet!!

Those are great! I especially like how the red line/text has disappeared on the originals...

I am in the process of buying a used CR and it has this sticker. I told the dealer that I thought it was a gimmick and didn't offer any tangible value. Is there actually a "cool factor" of having this sticker on the windshield? Please forgive my ignorance.

Given the decisive role that Brumos and Hurley have played in Porsche Motorsports, I'd offer that having a Brumos-sourced car and one that Hurley had tested/driven is a very big deal and adds to the value of the car.

My '02 car was just sold to a local PCA member who had to have the car. It wasn't for sale, but then I guess everything is for sale and we reached a mutually acceptable spot and the Brumos/Hurley origins did play a role.

I've replaced the 996.2 with a late '05 997.1 Carrera S with just 10,800 miles on the clock....bought and serviced at The Collection in Miami over the years.

Perhaps a stupid question: to what does the number in the corner refer? Just a serial # for the sticker, or...?
