Back on the road. 997 shift kit feels nice, pretty close to stock 996, slightly less travel. Not notchy like the Schnell kit. Going to keep it for now, maybe try something else down the road.

Havent done a c4 but on the c2 u can pull the bushings out and just replace them with the correct tool. It all looks the similar so im guessing it can be done. This will save u a fair amount of money but u will have to rent the tool from someone.

Thanks! I'll pull the belly pans and inspect it over the weekend before I order a $300 part.

Enabled the outside temperature display below the tach.

I never really cared about it because it's either a nice day for a drive or it isn't - no dash display required .
I recently saw in another thread how easy it is to do, so I figured what the hay? It took less than 60 seconds.

I had the same thing done when mine was in for service since they did it for free. Kind of surprised if it's easily enabled why they just didn't do that at the factory.

You can also wire switches to the back of the cluster and access some of the other OBC information like distance to empty, MPG's, and things like that. I'm replacing the "dummy" buttons to the left of the climate unit with switches from Pelican and there's a guy somewhere on here that makes the wiring harness for relatively cheap.

Because they wanted customers to pay for the computer option even though it's built into the car..

Interesting. I don't know that I've seen OBC actuation as a dealership option, would it have shown up on an original window sticker? I know 996.2 it comes activated from the factory.

Thanks, and yes, I read about that. I can't see going to the trouble though. I've had OBCs on BMWs going back 25 years and except for activating the speed gong once when I was trying to be a good boy after a ticket, I never used any of the features available.

Got the IMS/RMS/clutch done. 48k miles, IMS looked perfect.

Computer activation wasn't an option. OBC with the fourth stalk was the option. From the factory, everything was in place except that.

Good for you, now you can sleep well at night knowing your 996 isn't self-distructing in your garage.

Today @Z996Z, my son, a co-worker and I went on a drive down to the coast and back.(with a quick detour into Mexico. )
We took mostly backroads.
It was a VERY fun (and fast) drive, just us 2 996s and my co-worker in his manual Mustang GT.
We kept having to slow down to let the Mustang catch up.
We also stopped at Buc-ees for some ethanol free fuel!

Here's Z996Z's car:

Here's mine:

...and the Mustang GT:
