Default Just Bought My First 996!

I just pulled the trigger yesterday on a 2003 996! I won't pick her up until next Saturday, so I don't have but a few pics right now.

I've owned a 87 944, 87 944 Turbo, 02 Boxster, and a 93 968. I've been "Porsche-less" for over 8 years! Time to get back in the saddle!

Here's pic from the test drive, yes, it was raining! No problem, Porsche's love the rain!

Here's the window sticker(s):

Car has 82K on it, brand new set of Continental tires, IMS bearing and Oil separator done Dec of 2017.

Sorry I don't have more pics, but I'm not picking it up until next Saturday. There's a few minor things the dealer will do to the car.

When I get it it's going to need a FULL clay/compound/polish/sealant and I'll be getting the windows tinted pretty quickly.

I'll be doing one last test drive Saturday before I hand over the money so if you'all have any pointers, let me know!

I was very active in the Longhorn Region PCA, will definitely get back to that again!

Big mistake. You will regret it. Should have sprang for a Volvo!

Advice: year ever single switch/bulb/feature/button. Looks under every piece of carpet, over and under the car, etc. Get her nice and fully warmed up (driving it for 20 mins and have the temp at 180 for 5-10 mins and pull some redline acceleration and braking tests in 2nd or 2nd & 3rd gear.

Congrats!
I'd find out who and why the bearing was done and with what. Round up all the service history you can. Also, inquire about aftermarket warranties. Some may feel it's a waste but I've always recouped the initial cost in repairs later with them.

LOL on the volvo...

Under the advice, your original post didn't show this part. Is there some known bug with the site? Weird...

You picked one of the best 996 colors! Just be warned it’s as needy as black paint. I have exact same color combo.

Have you had it professionally detailed, or do you keep it looking good?

Reason I ask is I'm going to try and clean it up myself.

Since it appears you are not getting a PPI, one thing I would do is listen to the engine idle while you are at the back of the car. Is there a strong ticking or slapping sound? If it has a strong ticking or slapping sound, especially if it is louder on one side of the car (typically passenger) than the other, insist on a PPI to check for bore scoring. There are several threads from new owners who discovered bore scoring issues shortly after purchase. The fix is an entire engine rebuild.

I am not trying to be a Debbie Downer, but you need to feel confident you are not buying someone else's problem. If everything checks out, buy and enjoy. My 996 purchase has been worth every penny. I really enjoy driving it.

Sorry, I had a connection issue and thought I posted it under a new reply, but accidentally edited my original one.

No worries, thanks for the warning! I will definitely listen closely, I haven't given them the cash yet.

I just got a used Taco spoiler for my 996 Friday.
It was painted Midnight Blue.
That is a REALLY nice color.
Unfortunately since my 996 is seal grey, I already dropped it off at a body shop to be repainted.

Beautiful car and congrats! Like others have said listen closely for ticking and make sure it has around 1.5 bar or better oil pressure at hot idle.

Awesome! You're going to love it. That color rocks, and those wheels are some of my favorite.
