May need some help. Broken strut mount in Waynesville NC
Good day all and Happy 4th to my American friends!
Down in Waynesville NC on our Smokey Mountain Porsche drive. Hit a god awful pothole on the Blue Ridge yesterday and busted my passenger side front strut mount. I have Ohlins coilovers and the washer on the top of the shock is smacking the top of the shock tower.
Just throwing it out there wondering if someone in the area has a mount licking around. I may be able to limp it home but it’s a long trip and we aren’t leaving until Friday morning. Porsche Asheville is closed today I may try them tomorrow and see if they have anything.

I don’t have a mount, but I’m only about 40 miles from you, and only 5 miles from the Porsche dealer in Asheville. If you can get the car to my house I’ll offer you my garage and lift to do the repairs.
See Post #29 for a good picture of the top mounts for the shocks. Don't think you can get to the center rubber of the camber plate mount from the top of the strut assembly, would have to remove the entire strut assembly and disassemble. https://rennlist.com/forums/996-foru...-review-2.html
It may require complete removal yes. The coil over is quite a bit shorter then the original strut. Might be able to slip the mount out through the wheel well. I may just turn the damping all the way down, slip a piece of rubber in the shock tower to keep it from banging and put all my luggage in the back seat and nurse it home.
I have not used them personally but you might get some help from Appalachian Motors which is near you. I think they are the friendliest place locally to take a car like a BMW or Porsche.
Struck out at Porsche Asheville they didn’t have the part. Went to the local auto parts store and got a thick rubber disk, cut it to size and put it on top of the shock to keep it from banging into the top of the shock tower. Also softened up the shock damping. Total Roadkill fix, not ideal but it will get me home. No more runs down the Dragon.
When I installed the Ohlins I used the wrong washer on the bottom. The one that came with it was designed for mono ball mounts. The factory washer limits the rubber mounts movement up and down and this one was too small to do that. One big bump and it blew the rubber out.

Here is a pic of the remains of the strut mount. Was able to swap it without removing the whole strut, just the caliper, wiring brackets, and drop link had to be undone. One bonus of coil overs. Marked the bolts so hopefully the camber stays exactly the same.
