Officially Joined the Ranks

Flew up to Raleigh on Wednesday and bought my first Porsche, a 1999 996, and I am loving it! This is also my first time driving a manual transmission (had a lesson from my cousin in his GTI, but that's about it) and I only stalled it in traffic twice on the 6.5hr, 350mile drive back to Atlanta! :D Really didn't take long to get the hang of it, though I'm certainly not very good at it and I'd be lying if I said I wasn't still a little stressed driving it around in traffic.

Overall it's in nice condition, though I already have a list of things I want to do including new tires, refurbishing the headlights, and a good detailing all over. Would like to change out the wheels, but balking a bit at the prices. Not sure what I'd be able to get if I sold the ones that are on there now.

Despite the flaws I still love it and am really excited I decided to go for it. Also excited to join the amazing community of enthusiasts here on Rennlist!

She's a beauty. I'm biased, because it's the same color as mine. Previous owner changed out the pumpkins, too. And perhaps the instrument bezels have the snap-on silver frame people have been buying.

Congrats!

Welcome to the madness. Nice car. Not sure if you have driven many sports cars but many people, particularly jacked-up 4x4's, have trouble seeing us in the outside rear view mirrors. Stay frosty when in traffic!

My other car is the one next to it here; you could say I have a type. :p

Have definitely noticed how much lower I am to the ground in this, and even had an SUV get a little close for comfort on the test drive, so keeping that situational awareness up for sure!

She’s a beauty and I like the wheels very much on this color!

Welcome and have fun. Learn to rev-match!

Whats the mileage on it. BTW it has the double race bearing on the 99 job for sure. Have fun.

Yes, welcome to the club, love the color too here... but mine is a Cab, You are in the right place here to find the answers to any questions you may have. I did the same in 2006 when I got my car. Enjoy the fun drive every time you take her out, cheers.

Welcome, and good choice on the year and 6MT! Wow, just learned to drive a manual? Very impressive. My car looked VERY similar to yours when I picked it up 3 years ago. My advice (to my 3 years ago self) would be...
1) All maintenance up to date
2) Headlights Refinished (as you mentioned)
3) Lowering Springs (improves appearance and performance)
4) Wheels and Tires (so many good options, research and decide!)
5) Enjoy!

Looks great and congrats on learning to drive with three pedals!

How about a close up of that two toned grille?

Litronics, rear wiper, three spoke wheel and great colour - nice spec. Is that an aftermarket stereo, too?

Enjoy

It's got ~120,600 miles on it. Had a big service at 99,500 miles for the IMS, RMS, clutch, and water pump.

Just came from a detailer and got an estimate for $650+ to get the scratches out (EDIT: from the body, not headlights. have some pretty good scratches on the hood/rear and they said it would need some wet-sanding). Was already planning to DIY the headlights, but for that much money this might be a good opportunity to learn how to fix paint scratches myself too!

three spoke wheel
I know I'm new to this, but I'm counting 5 spokes...what am I missing?

Yep, it's got a Pioneer avic-x940bt with touchscreen, bluetooth, and backup cam.

Sure, here's a couple closeups.
