My second piece of advice is the guy sounds like a complete douche. First, he’s had the car for months and “suddenly” it needs to go to the auction today or tomorrow. He ain’t getting $21,500 at auction. Period. Either the car has something wrong with it or he’s just using it as a tactic to get you to buy now. If the car is clean and checks out, he’s going to get a LOT more for it in a few days pending a PPI. Second, the ad says 60,000 miles, you said it’s got 66,000. I HATE people who will fib to the tune of 6,000 miles. That’s two or three years of life on one of these cars.

I’d be wary.

That 996 would do $19,500-20,000 at the auction, perhaps slightly more due to the colors (black/black), equipment and IMS bearing retrofit. Assuming it checks out (paintwork, mechanical, etc.), looks reasonable.

With those options and mileage, and the fact that its a late model car, I'd be expecting a price over 24k. The price probably isn't low enough though for me to want to rush into it with no PPI. When I hear people say "I don't know anything about ____" it always sounds to me like they're just trying to avoid having to answer questions about the car because there's something they don't want to disclose.

So the seller would rather go to auction and get $5,000 less than wait for your PPI? Yea right. You can RUN AWAY from this one and feel good about it. Prediction...the car is still for sale in two weeks.

I agree 100%... Take your time, there are so many great examples out there.

I’ve seen instances where the options code and car don’t match, especially on the later 996’s. I think that Porsche started putting together option packages, and those aren’t always correctly represented on the option sticker, though they would be on the COA/ build sheet.

Something doesn't add up, I wouldn't waste my time or money with this guy. There are way too many for sale out there so unless this has specific traits you must have walk away, FAST....

Really? Sports seats, PSE, 030 and X51? I can't imagine other than a 40th anniversary lots out there with these options. .. Only thing I'd want is an aero kit.

OP, are you still persueing?

A PO found sports seats somewhere dirt cheap and swapped them, but didn't hook up the power. The headlights are a fair amount of work to change, but it can be done by anyone with a bit of time and effort. At least you can figure someone prior to you loved the car and did some upgrades.

Otherwise, it is a well optioned car, and a desirable mileage. Guess my advice would be don't sweat the small stuff. Write the check after having the oil test done at a min. If he won't wait for the oil and filter to be checked, run Forest run.

I have the same basic thing in red without the heated seats or X51. I also have M030, and traction control, etc. I'm selling mine for $21,500 too but I can come down some now.

Well those would be the traits I am talking about... I am saying there are a lot of 996's for sale but if he must absolutely have these specific features then maybe this is the right one for him.

The ding dong still has the car. He never took it to the auction. I doubt he will. I like the "traits" on the car except for the black exterior. I don't like the lack of records. At a minimum it needs 2 to 4 k in services as noted above. I offered him $17,500 as is. We'll see what happens.

If you want the car, show up with cash in hand and make the offer in person...I would never negotiate via email or on the phone.

I wondered about this myself. My C4S option sticker shows a tip but it's a 6-speed.
