Looked at this car today...
01 Carrara 4. 200k, needs clutch and rotors, Maybe more. I have never seen these wheels before. Anyone know what they are? Are the std for this car??
They are asking 14k, seems high. What do you all think.
TIA

Maybe a bit high, IMO, but not crazy. Depends on how everything else is. I bought a cab with 135K miles for $10K but it needed lots of cosmetic work and a steering rack.

Offer $10K and hope they come down a little. How's it drive? What's the interior look like? Service history etc...The wheel are the last thing to be concerned with, either you like them or you don't!
There are others out there...

Those are aftermarket wheels - not sure of manufacturer. PPI...PPI...PPI - don't believe the "all it needs is..." arguments. It looks like those headlights need a good polish...

Too high considering a beautiful arena red coupe just sold on Bring A Trailer for $17,750 that appeared to need nothing with 78,000 miles. I would say this car will need enough work to shoot over that price and you will have a rebuild on your hands well before the other.
Considering the mileage, someone had to have taken care of it since these cars can experience failures well under 100k miles if neglected. Get a PPI and like others have said, use the rebuild as leverage. PS - these are OEM wheels for the C4, they are just uncommon.

Just looked at your ad. Beautiful car... OP should buy this instead. I bought my car on Autotrader Canada and looking back I think it was a huge mistake. If I were to buy another, it would be from an active enthusiast on this site or my local Porsche club. Too many unknowns otherwise.

With 200K miles and that price, aftermarket rims, unknown service history, looks like a sketchy used car lot... I'd pass. There are too many others out there that are in better starting condition.
With any car you don't have history for, the conventional wisdom around here is plan on $5K in potential service costs. Depending upon whether you can DIY any of the work, this car could probably use every penny of that. The dealer will have you in that range in no time for brakes and suspension alone.
They're out there in this range. I'm trying to sell 2000 with all the service up to date, factory rims, good tires, 107K engine, new: brake pads and rotors, clutch, flywheel, AOS, hoses, RMS, fuel filter, battery, you name it - and I'm close to that price, even with the PSS10 suspension on it..

Thanks for all the comments and info. Random comments: Agreed, wheels not a big deal, just have never seen before and they are beat up. Interior looks like a 50k car, zero wear on drivers bolster, made me think it was re-done, if so the work was top notch. . It drove tight and rode very well.(but to be honest, this is the first 996 I've driven. Accelerated thru the gears smoothly to redline. If I did not know the mileage, I would believe it was a sub 100k car. The front bumper cover is trashed with knicks, you can't see in the pictures, but rest of paint looks good, needs a good detail, but decent. I was thinking about the PPI and then maybe starting at 9K as see what they say. But I don't want to go more than 10K. But I am sure there are better examples with a Hx out there.
I am completely open to learning about cars for sale from members of this forum, so contact me at jcdod93 at that google mail place. Or thru PM's here. Again, thanks and I am looking forward to becoming a Porsche owning member of this community.
PS: JimmyB, nice to see Saab's in your ownership history. That Is what I have too. Did some fun things with the Classic 900 turbos.

Hi Frank, the car is in Colorado. Spent it's whole life here. Carfax shows 4 previous owners with RMS replaced under warranty at 30k. This was in 03, were they even replacing IMSB's in 03?? I have no other info than that. I would imagine that the clutch has been replaced at least once. I can't see a clutch lasing 200k. So I would hope the IMS was done, but again, I have to info for that
