I'm still wondering if you're using new crush washers on these drain plugs...

I used the washer they provided and it looks identical to the one that came off so I don’t think that should be a problem. As Wyovino mentioned, the original LN version wasn’t as robust and the plug itself ripped apart(plug head vs body). I will get a torque wrench shortly as well.

Why do they even call them crush washers on this car? They don’t crush at all.

We went away from the 10mm hex as people were over-torquing them. That combined with the fact that they were never designed to last a lifetime, they do occasionally break. That said, they have problems so far and few between that we gladly warranty them if we are asked politely about it.

Put new non-magnetic plug in, 9 quarts of oil, and then drove 700 miles without any issues. All is good.

I've converted from a torque wrench to a torque adapter, and am very happy with the versatility of it.

Not so fast, the OP hasn't confirmed this yet.

Glad your oil filter's clean, OP.

Yup. That's the original magnetic drain plug we made with the 10mm hex. I'd venture to say that plug might have been 8-10 years old by now, going by revisions in the design.

^^Oh man! That's brutal...were you able to hold them accountable/prove it was their fault? Did they cop to it right away or did they try to fight it?

There have been several revisions over the years.

The first change was to make the magnet flush on the face so it would be easier to clean.

Then we went back to an 8mm hex as people were able to put too much leverage on the 10mm hex.

The last change added compatibility for the the 9A1 engine, with the tapered end to provide clearance for the oil pan baffle in the 9A1.
