Frunk Storage Ideas - Plastic boxes?
 

I tried searching before posting...

I'm wondering what size plastic storage boxes will fit inside the frunk of a `99 C2. I'd like to be able to put stuff inside during track days so that if it rains, nothing gets wet. Plus it's easy to remove and install all the stuff.

Does anyone know what size boxes or bags fit in there nicely? Maybe something like 1 or 2 of these:

I'll bet Porsche sells a $1,200 set.

I see some luggage sets in other countries for sale, but I was hoping not so much for luggage, but for waterproof plastic for the track. I did find measurements but only of width. I may need to drive the 911 to Home Depot

Maybe some kayak bags. They are soft sided and waterproof???

Interesting idea. But for luggage, I'll just use simple, inexpensive duffle bags that I have and put them in giant zip-loc bags. I love those huge zip-locs. I just ordered the 20 gallon size on Amazon, which is about 2' x 2.5' in size.

But I was hoping to find plastic boxes that fit really well into the frunk so I can put loose track items, like tape, EZ pass, small tool bags, etc, inside.

It's not a container as such be a big blue Ikea bag fits perfectly and has handles so you can easily pull it out. I have one in my frunk, dont tell Ikea haha

Let us know what you find. Maybe a container store?

I have a plastic bin that fits pretty tidy. I "think" it's Rubbermade, but will check.

That would be cheaper than Porsche luggage for travelling.

Or, you could buy a tape measure. :)



This one is from Costco and fits with room left over. I also have a Sterlite 10 gallon that fits.

In my C4S this is the only size that fits. 3"x5" file card box and only one. You are lucky to have a C2!:D

I wouldn't call them 'kayak bags'..whatever, but there are water proof duffle bags that watersport enthusiasts use everyday.........surely they are far more space efficient than hard, 6- sided stuff. Yup, you can get them clear....and obviously flexible.

An 18-gallon Rubbermaid Roughneck storage tub fits pretty perfectly in a C2 trunk. It does not use up 100% of the space, but maybe 80% of the main "well" volume, leaving a tiny bit of space on the sides and up above where the stereo amplifier would be. When I go to the track I have an 18-gallon RM tote in the trunk, a 10-gallon RM tote in the front passenger footwell, and a smaller Sterilite case (maybe ~7 gallons?) in each back seat area. Those 4 containers hold everything I need, keeping things out of the weather, and I can load and unload the car in about 1 minute :)

It gets better: when I googled the 18 gal Rubbermaid and saw it, I thought, hmm, that looks really familiar. Yes, I've got 2 of those in my basement currently not being used, plus a 20 gallon of a different brand that I'll try as well. I'll still take the car (and the measurements with my tape measure, SoCal911t, wise guy!) to home depot and see what also fits behind the rear seats just for grins.

In my GTO, I keep two large plastic tubs in the trunk, under the hat shelf strapped in against the rear seat backs. Inside of each tub, I have room for 4 small tubs. They all stay in nice and neat, and I can divide up stuff to keep it organized. This way, small items like glass fuses or spare spark plugs are easily located, and oil/fluids are in their own container should some leak. etc. I'd like to do something similar with the 911, but hopefully I don't need to carry as many spare parts!

I just got my car back so I tried the plastic bins. The 18 gallon fits well, very snug front to rear, and about 6" left on the sides. And it fills the trunk nicely in terms of height.

Then I tried the 20 gallon and it was too snug. So 18 it is.
