Default Key issue, input needed!

My key is very worn, starting to act up in the lock and ignition so I was wondering if it is possible to get a new blade cut and insert it into the original key head?

It is definitely possible. A dealer can order the cut key blank with your vin number. There might be places online where you can order it as well.

There are even some local locksmiths that can do a laser cut key. However, I think the best route is to order one from the dealer with your VIN number. Then it will not be a copy of your worn out key, but a brand new one. Do you have a second key that is not as worn out and would work as a template for a new key? Just a thought....

The blade part of the key is replaceable, and it is easy to do. It is the RFID pill in the key that is the critical component for the immobilizer.

Atrox it's actually worse in the door, and close inspection of the key it's definitely worn.

Thanks guys! I'll call the dealer and see what they can do, I have found a locksmith that is able to cut a new blade if I can get the key code.

you alteady have imobilizer pill in key fob, so switch over and you won’t need new code. If you are wanting a new key and fob prepare to pay Porsche tax.

Yup yup. Dealer quoted $170 for key with new fob and 120 to program. Which isn't great but I was expecting worse! And they can cut/program while I wait. So I may just go that way.

Check with these guys https://keysinthepost.com
They are great. Easy to deal with, and very reasonable. I've used them with great success.

The reason I didn't post about keysinthepost is that the OP is saying his key is very worn, so all he would be doing is sending a picture of a very worn key to get another copy of a very worn key. Better off getting a new key from his VIN ordered at the dealer and maybe having another key blade cut as well. Cutting a new key blade from a very worn key is not going to solve the problem.

Their website says they can work with a pic of a worn key and make it right. ???

I had a GREAT experience with Keys in the post, they made 2 keys for my 996.
The original pictures that I sent them were not good enough so they requested more.
So if they accept your picture the key blank will fit

Thx
Alan
