Hilarious mechanical issue
So it appears my 00' C2 coupe has developed what is probably the most hilarious mechanical issue I have ever come across. Under hard braking my horn sounds. Started about a month ago and has been getting progressively worse. I could be out and about driving spiritedly and need to slow for a traffic light aannddd all of a sudden Im blaring my horn at the vehicle in front of me at a complete standstill and getting all sorts of dirty looks. Or at my last auto x event where I received a new award for the most horn blows during a lap.
I did some research and it seems as though this is a fairly common problem with bushings or springs on the air bag retaining frame wearing out and the weight of the air bag allowing the contact patches controlling the horn to close and sound the horn. I believe that the part I need to order is https://www.pelicanparts.com/cgi-bin...993+347+088+01 but want to confirm before I place my order.
Can anyone confirm this for me, it would be greatly appreciated.

Should be the one assuming you have a 4 spoke wheel. Suncoast has it for $70. Make sure to order with your VIN # and they will tell you if the part is not correct.

I do have the four spoke wheel. Thank you for the link to suncoast. I will make sure to confirm with them via VIN.

Great post!
I used to get an electrical shock when I would activate the horn on my TR6, but that was Lucas Electronics, so it was not unexpected.
Your horn feature is only good for the driver ahead of you who doesn’t go when the light changes green.
But my wife’s car’s feature is only good for the A-hole driver behind her: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=wD0rcnYLGAM

This is good to know. My horn is extremely sensitive when you touch it near the top.
That didn't sound right.

I had this problem a few years ago and there were some threads about it. If I recall, all I had to do was take off the airbag section of my steering wheel and install some $0.10 rubber washers from Home Depot on the mounts and the problem was solved. Took about 15 minutes and haven't had a problem since.

I love it. Clever, simple, inexpensive fix.
If you do this, save yourself some hassle and just unplug the airbag at the yellow connector, and put the airbag off to the side while you work. Of course you will want to make sure the ground cable has been disconnected for 15 min or more, etc.
