I drove a 2k Boxster S a few years ago that had this quite loud banging sound from the rear. I assumed maybe a strut or motor mount. This year, I bought an 03 doing the same thing. They drive just fine. I have a 13' pit in my garage, got under it, looked and probed everywhere and could find nothing loose. Can anyone point me to the problem? I'm thinking it must be a common problem if I hit 2 that did it. I have not pulled the shield under the front motor mount yet though.

The most common cause is the diagonal control arms, sometimes called "tuning forks"..

Thank you very much for the reply. Are these used on both rear and front? The video I found was for front but my noise is in the rear.
Are the rubber inserts available to rebuild them?
