Default MY2000 opening hood without battery

Can I operate the doors and hood without battery? I won't be home for a while and I'd like to disconnect the battery while keeping the hood and doors closed. I read that some model years have a cable vs electronic latches?

The cable release is insids your front bumper. There's an access hole by the license plate. keep your hood open, much easier.

Open hood, use screwdriver or other round shaft device to “latch” the hood lock, disconnect, let the hood down against the latched latch.

Put a towel over the latch.

I like a battery tender. No battery = no alarm.

For a MY2000, you can open the engine lid without the battery. Then attach jumpers to the jump points and you'll be able to open the hood.
You can lock/unlock the doors without a battery. If you have an original radio make sure you have the code.

(I'm trying to attach a picture but it's not working for some reason. It's in the owner's manual)

I use a battery tender and keep my car locked.
I got an pigtail extension from eBay and ran it up toward the windshield.
I had to clearance the plastic a bit.
The pigtail tucks down inside the hole, and the plastic cap hides everything when not in use.

The 2000 C4 parts car that I had used cables (not electric switches) for the frunk and engine lid, so no issues with dead or no battery. Potentially that changed mid-model year. In fact my car never had a battery in it, and I was able to open and lock everything.

Maybe the C4 is different, but on my MY2000 C2, even though it uses cables for the front and back, the front won't open without a battery. The back will. It's described in the Owner's Manual on page 92 - "When the battery is discharged, the lever for the front hood can't be unlocked. Using jumper cables, the battery of another car can be used to open the front hood. To connect the cables, refer to Emergency Starting with Jumper Cables" (page 184)

My MY 2000 C4 has cables that open both front and back lids....... early MFG date I suspect. I bought it in February. I charge up the battery every fall, disconnect it, lock her up and put on the cover.......

My C2 has cables for front and back too, but there must be some electronic lock for the front. My MFG date is January 2000. I haven't tried to open the frunk without a battery but the manual says you can't. Other's have posted that it is indeed true. Maybe C4s are different.
