It still amazes me...
Spent some time on youtube viewing reviews of the ugly and under-appreciated 996 over the weekend. Sunday morning I dropped the wife off along with another friend's wife/kids at the "Trading post" at the bottom of the mountain on Rt211 heading out of Sperryville, Va. and my buddy and I took our 996s up and over the mountain at Thorton gap, crossing Skyline drive and heading down into Luray Va, I'll admit here that I pushed it much harder than I had previously, and I drove hard to keep ahead of the little 2003 4s chasing me. It was a fun and spirited drive up and over, turning around and then up and back over the mountain. I was left with the impression that this little 99 model stripper lightweight is just so much fun, and so rewarding when kept between 4-7K RPMs. The shifts, the feel, transition into and out of corners, and that sound... I'll take all the $15K Mk1s you can throw at me. People just don't know what they're missing!!

Burning Brakes
The 996 shape has really grown on me; esp as modern cars have gotten bigger and bigger, with cuts and lines and fake vents and crap all over them.
The 964 was not well accepted in its day and is now commanding $$$
I'll keep enjoying my mk1 996

I am so looking forward to taking my car out for the first drive this year soon!
I am semi depressed after spending the last 5 weeks in Daytona and now am back in Chicago where it is cold and rainy.

I agree Mikelly...I said this before and I will say it again....of all of the 911s I still own (including a 997 I have now and a previously owned 991 GT3), my 996 is still my favorite platform.

I live in Northern VA (Fairfax) and I make it out that way as much as I can in my C4S. I just drove to Richmond a few weeks ago via Charlottesville (the long way) to enjoy the open country roads. I use Waze and try to keep the speed down as much as I can... The 996 is just a joy to drive. I enjoyed my 964 a lot... but the 996 is a bit more modern and dare I say comfortable! I could never get my HVAC controls on the 964 to work correctly and it really made long drives a chore.
Cheers!

Personally I don't care about $ value. This car is so much fun to drive. We have a 2016 Corvette that will run rings around the 996, but while being awesome, it is antiseptic. Perhaps that is the best way to describe the 996. Maybe one of the last analog (mostly) cars out there. For those who don'y get it, that is their loss.
