RMS Tool for 996?
Hi there… starting the clutch/RMS job hopefully this weekend and realized I very likely need a RMS install tool.
Is there anyone out there that has one to sell or rent (or lend)? Thx… Larry Shaker Heights, OH 216 645 7669 |
A Rennlister whose handle is Chris(MA) 3D prints a tool that works well, setting the seal at the critical depth without drama. I think it ran around $35 ish. Not the tool you want to start a professional shop with but it works well for a DIY mechanic. I'd recommend it. Maybe drop him a private message?

Thx… I'll look for him…

I had these made by the machinist that does work for us. Correct depth and roll pin hole. I have $55 into them and will sell for that plus shipping. Have 9-10 available.https://cimg8.ibsrv.net/gimg/rennlis...e68ec559fb.jpg

I don’t want to detract from his offer, but the one Chris (MA) offers is less money, and has holes so you can use fasteners to progressively and evenly tighten the seal to depth. Something to consider (or maybe a design change for this one?). |
I did buy one from Chris! Hope to receive tomorrow! Thx all…

No detraction. I used it on my own car and worked perfectly. Can only drive it in to the Porsche specified depth. https://cimg6.ibsrv.net/gimg/rennlis...319663336e.jpg

wow, that's clean! did you change the engine case half bolts when you did your work? Saw an IMS/RMS video where they changed the bolts, but, I cannot find part #s. yours look new…

Didn't change the bolts. did some selective cleaning around the RMS with brake cleaner and a fine brass brush. Did the same around the RMS when I replaced the seal on it. Turned out to be a big bearing engine. This is what it looked like when I got it apart.https://cimg6.ibsrv.net/gimg/rennlis...c79b7d448e.jpg

was that oil on the IMS flange from the RMS leak? did you do IMS as well?

I was not sure, but believe that it was from the RMS. I have a big bearing engine, notice the 22MM nut on the IMS. I did put a new Porsche seal on the IMS flange and pulled the seal off the bearing. I did a video and oil was running out of the bearing when the seal came off. |
