Default Just bought my first Porsche: 1999 911 Coupe

I thought I'd join this forum since I just bought my first Porsche. It's a 1999 911 Carrera Coupe. I'm not a paying member, so I can't post pictures, but it looks almost identical to the car in this thread. My car only had about 39,500 miles on it when I bought it. The interior is in amazing condition, as is the exterior. The IMS bearing had been upgraded a few years ago, so I didn't need to worry about that. The mechanic who did the PPI before I bought it couldn't find anything wrong with the car. However, I'm still going to have my go-to garage look over the car.

I'm absolutely in love with this car. It drives like nothing else I've ever driven before. The sound of the motor alone is enough to put a smile on my face.

I'm going to be ordering the Bentley's for this car soon, as I plan on doing basic maintenance myself. I've been learning a lot about cars by working on an old air-cooled Volkswagen I own. So, I'm hoping to put some of that experience to use by taking care of my 911 myself. I'm sure I'll have questions for the members here, so I hope you all will be willing to share your knowledge with me!

Thanks! I might becoming a paying member in a bit. After buying a car, I'm scaling my spending back for a bit.

Congrats! I own the same car, and I purchased it with 40K on the clock. It's like brand new and drives like a dream.

Nice rIde! Blow off the Bentley's manual and get the 101 996 projects book and the 996 Torque Guide. They are a heck of a lot more useful. The 101 even has a list of tools to purchase to work on your 911 that is excellent. The '99 is the best year model Porsche ever made. It has all of the nimbleness of the 993 but with more HP.

Welcome ! Nice looking car !! You have the rare rear wiper blade (nothing to see back there when the right pedal is pushed).

If you are Internet savvy, you can find the Porsche WSM manuals in pdf for free.

Nice looking car, reminds me of my 99 from a few years ago. Congrats!

I've got to disagree on the Bentley vs. 101 projects... 101 is great if you just want to do basics and "skim" information - granted, it's got engine removal etc. but they skip a lot of stuff and have virtually no background information. Bentley sort of errs in the opposite direction, so it's probably overkill for many "home mechanics" and it's expensive - the reason I like it is, because just about everything is in there, albeit difficult to find at times... + 1 on the KG Torque book - invaluable!!! Easy access to torque values for every nut/bolt on the car (that you actually need a value for).

Congrats on the car and welcome to the 911 club! Def join the site as a paying memeber, so much info here I’d feel guilty otherwise.

You mentioned the imsb already being done. That’s great; but be advised there’s two main versions (there are others) a retrofit and a solution. The former is a wear item and the latter is a lifetime part. Just a heads up as some folks think either is a permanent fix and is def not the case. Either way you should be set for a min given the retrofit is rated at 6yr/75k mi.
