Default Installing MOMO wheel and clockspring?

Going to install my new MOMO steering wheel along with a model specific wheel hub. After removing the wheel, do I also need to remove the clockspring to accomodate my hub, or does the hub attach on top of it?

Car is a 1998 996 mk1 C4.

Thank you!

Called my local workshop and was given confirmation that the new steering wheel hub goes on top of the clockspring.

Default Did this work?

Sorry to revive this thread, but I’m about to install a MOMO Mod 7 and want to keep the clock spring.

Im not sure how these individuals did it with the clock spring or why, since its pointless without the airbag.

Remove it

I have a brand new Momo steering wheel and hub that I've been contemplating installing while I have a lot of COVID-19 induced spare time.
Thanks for reviving this thread!

Let us know what you find out. Is there a factory part to satisfy the airbag light like in my 964?

Clock spring will have to be removed to install aftermarket steering wheels. You will have to splice in a resistor to the airbag wires to defeat the light. You will also need an L-bracket and connector pin to retain horn function as well. With the clockspring removed, you will still have turn-signal cancellation as long as you adjust the steering stalk to sit flush with the aftermarket hub.

Does anyone have a pic of the L bracket and Connector pin? I’ve think I’ve seen this, but it still seems there is an issue with the ignition on and ignition off and the horn.

You can follow this thread. Although 993 specific, it is exactly the same in the 996

You are going to remove the airbag to install an aftermarket steering wheel? What is wrong with the wheel you have now?
