Default Color change?

I have some new body panels for my car. I am itching for a color change. I am not a big fan of my rain forest green color. I am looking on wraps, but that cost about $3,500 - 4.500 in my area. Painting seems to run about $5k on the low side. If I could get it painted for about $2,500 I might do it, but painting is expensive.

I have new:
- Deck lid with spoiler
- Rear bumper
- Side skirts

I would love to go to a exotic bold color... Miami blue haha. I know that is not everyone's cup of tea, but if I am spending that much money, I would rather get the color I want. My main concern is, going with a lower end price paint, I might not get under trunk and under hood painting. I would definately getting the door jams painted. That might look weird with the different colors.

If you had a color change:
Did you do a wrap or paint?
What did your color change include? Door jams, under trunk, under hood, etc
What was your pre-change and post-change colors? (pics? )
How much does your color change run?

I love this car, but I dont want to over invest. I want to stay focused on saving for a bigger house, and for a 996/997 Turbo. This is a transition, but a transition that I am in love with. If I get in a wreck, insurance would not give me back my mods money that I lost.

Honestly, If this is a temporary car, dont paint it or wrap it. Just save up for the next one. The reasoning behind this is that to get a high quality paint job it would damn near cost half the actual price of the car and you will not get much if any return of investment on the cost. If you try to go with a cheaper painting you will actual drag the cost of the car down compared to if you didnt paint it at all.

If you are worried that you won't get the value for the car, look into "agreed value" insurance from a specialist company, like Hagarty on one of the others. If you can show them the true value of the car, you should be able to get better coverage.

and +1 on not spending the money to repaint if you have longer term wishes. If you don't plan to spend $10k on a good complete paint job, you are just throwing your money away, you'll never sell a 996 with a cheap paint job for much of anything. The buyers will wonder what you are covering up. And someone out there is looking for a rain forest green 996, go find them.

If the underlying paint is original and solid, the wrap seems like a good, reversible, choice for a color change. When you get sick of the new color or decide to sell, take it off and your original paint should still be in good shape. Cheap paint jobs are just going to devalue the car. In my mind, a proper color change is glass out, engine out, stripped to the shell. Way more hassle and cost than it’s worth.

Bro! It will look like *** and completely devalue whatever little the car may end up being worth in the end. Color changes never end well, unless you gut it... motor out, interior out, etc.... not worth it. And, you are right, a wrap is expensive and not worth it either, 5k min.

Two options that you have not considered, if you don't care about resale value or time it takes to sell: Find a Maacco that has a decent paint guy working there and get the "ambasador special" or whatever for $500 bux and enjoy the hell out of it, it will last long enough till you are ready to sell. I have had a few of these paint jobs and they looked good for up to 3yrs till I sold the cars. Tip? Avoid color change or at least do a diff shade of the same color, ie: say, bright lime green if you want it to be loud and then the jams, engine bay, etc will not stand out as much. Maybe accent trim or do decals in matching OEM green to blend it. Then, be prepared to answer questions when selling and take a hit on asking price.

OR... and this is my vote and best option for you IMHO:

Liquid wrap it ie: Plasti Dip it yourself for pennies on the dollar then take it off before you sell it. Buy a "kit" and a Wagner electric sprayer and knock yourself out my friend! Google and Youtube that shiiit.

Stay focused!

Green is a thing. I waited for mine. You'll be able to sell to another greenie, no problem. Enjoy the car while you have it. Make sure to wait for the Turbo that is in the color you like or you'll be in this pickle all over again!!

Oh, and, uh... so my lab partner is a real flake and I'm gonna need an extension on the final?

^^THIS! The green color is awesome. Embrace it...and don't waste your money on short term, poor investment decisions if what you really want is a house and a turbo. "Stay focused" is right....

So why do you have new body panels, was the car damaged?
That might figure into your decision.

I like rain forest green, btw. I'm certain others do. A nice change from the 50 shades of silver you see on many Porsches, incl mine.

Rain Forest Green would probably bring in more money if well kept. Right now 996s in rare colors have higher demand.

Look at this example.

I wanted a spoiler (which they all come with new deck lids), so I found one used on a wrecked car, and it had the other mods, so I got the extra stuff, side skits and rear bumper.

I am still trying to figure out what kind of lip I can get for the front. I am lowered on H&R springs and already scrape on some driveways. I had a FRP GT2 bumper that I bought for my Boxster that I was thinking of putting on the 911, but I figured it would be too low, so I sold that bumper.

Here is the video of my LED tail light upgrade. My car came from DC, so it has nicks and scratches from city life parking. I have a small dent in the rear left fender that my mechanic think I should fix with the new parts.

Those are nice taillights.

And the added body parts would look great on the car, painted rain forest green!

+1 for not changing the color.
I prefer the coupes as opposed to cabs myself but that color actually really looks good on that car. If it doesn't work for you I would move on to something that appeals to your tastes rather than investing 3500+ into it. You will never recoup that and like others have said may actually devalue and make it harder to sell. Add your mods in matching color. It really will look good and someone else looking for that color will appreciate it.
