So a local fellow put up an ad for a M96/M97 engine jacking plate. I went to take a look, turns out the guy used to swap bigger engines into Boxsters years ago but got out of it. One of the engines that he purchased from Porsche had this plate on the bottom. It has 2 pins to lock into the block, plus a bunch of other points of support. It was the first time I had ever seen one, has anyone else?

I decided to pick it up just to have it, but now I am using it to lower my engine to get access to the AOS and change the coolant tank while my transmission is out. It really seems to support the engine nice and steady. Glad I found it!

It's looks like something that was used at the factory and was forgotten by accident. Its great because the oil sump isn't used at all for support.

Just did the AOS and coolant tank last night, gave me the clearance I needed to drop it out.

A thread somewhere around here showed the OP using an ATV jack from HB. It seems to work awesomely. (Is that a word?)

That would work well with this mount. My trans jack with the platform that tilts was really ideal, allowed me to angle it perfectly.

I will be putting the engine back on its mounts in a couple weeks. Once it is down i will measure it up and post here.

Cosmo, thanks! I want to build one now! Should be pretty easy to weld one up if you can share a decent set of measurements. Seems like it would be very useful.

That lift works kinda well. The issue is if you are fully dropping the engine, the lift does not go high enough to support the motor, so you need to add 4x4 (or other wood). Once you are ready to lower the motor, it does not go low enough to clear the rear of the car when pulling the motor out with the 4x4s on the lift, so you have to jack the car up higher so the motor clears.

Ok here is a quick diagram I made and some closeup pics. I think the round standoffs could be made with a bolt and some washers. The other three mounts I dunno...
