997 coils and 996 heat shield
The last set of coils I got when I ordered replacements for my 996 C2 were the updated 997 coils. I didn't think much about the change until I realized the longer bolts and thicker housings mean the bolts hit the heat shields. I ended up just bending the heat shielding to fit, but was wondering if anyone else had a more elegant solution. I looked up the 997 heat shield part number and it's the same (996 104 445 02). Just add spacers to get the heat shield away from the valve cover?

I measured the gap needed and it was about 3 centimeters. I bought stainless steel studs (I don't remember the length...about 4-5 cm longer than the original bolt) with a internal hex key on the end for installation, a regular nut and a locking nut. Installed the studs, put the nut on the stud, installed new heat shields and put on the locking nuts. Worked perfect.

That's what I did -I found some nice stainless steel 1/4" spacers that I had lying around (I knew they'd come in handy one day...). Just be careful when tightening the bolts - one of mine started to strip, so I had to use a slightly longer bolt...
