Default buying rims for winter tires

Hi all, just bought an '02 C4 cab. I live in Wisconsin and need winter tires so I decided to buy separate rims / tires to swap each winter. What do I need to keep in mind when buying rims for my 996? Can I buy any 17" wheels? Are there specific wheel specs I need to keep in mind? For example, would these work - https://www.ebay.com/itm/4-BRAND-NEW-AVAT-AV5-17X7-5-5X114-3-40-Matte-Black-WHEELS/252069177006?epid=1341553158&hash=item3ab07e66ae:g:HzYAAOSwHnFV3JnI

My only requirement is that they be black colored and the widest diameter possible while still being able to fit winter tires. Currently I have 18" stock 5-spoke porsche wheels. Help appreciated!

If you were not set on black, I do have OEM Carrera 4 rims I will get rid of soon. Shipping from Canada may be a bit, though.

Hey there Cheesehead, congrats on your purchase and welcome to Rennlist. No, the wheels in the link you posted will not work -- for starters, it's the wrong lug pattern, so they physically will not fit on your car. You need a 5x130 lug patter, not 5x114.

Additionally, have a look at the pdf in the link below, should give you a good idea of what to shop for in regards to wheel width, diameter and tire sizes.

https://files.porsche.com/filestore/...es-996-986.pdf

Based on your knowledge base, you might tirerack a shout when ordering as they can help guide you further and I've had good luck w/ them in the past. -- good luck!

Just get a set of wheels and tires thru TireRack. I run 17's with Blizzaks and they work great(it's a blizzard in Mpls today).

I bought the winter wheels and tires for my 996 C4S from Dave at www.wheelenhancement.com. He was very helpful, and has extensive knowledge of what works and what doesn't work on a Porsche. I bought a set of Italian made replica Sport Technos for my car. Great price and great service.

You can usually find one wheels locally or on eBay. I got a set of Carrera IIIs for $400 with a set of snows for $500.

Where in Wisconsin? I'm in Milwaukee and have a set of twists in my garage that would be perfect for a winter setup. Came off a 2000 C2 NB.
