HELP! Car door wont open, locked out, need car ASAP!
Before anything else, past 2-3 weeks i've been having trouble where my door handle doesn't open the door; meaning i have to lock/unlock the car a few times before the latch works and the door opens.
So i left for vacation and put the trickle charger on, leaving the hood open, and locking the car (forgetting about the above issue). Now, upon return, my FOB doesn't open the car (usually the case but I insert the key, unlock manually, and it usually recognizes thereafter; or, i open the door, alarm goes off, and then i turn on the car and everything works).
I need the car for work - I tried a million times manually turning key to lock/unlock position to see if handle will work... i'm afraid to bang on the door or do anything else cause the alarm will go off and I dont know how to stop it (will unplugging the battery stop the alarm? cause my hoods open).
Also, what is the problem with the door?
edit: i tried to turn the key all the way left and holding it 5-10 seconds, then right 5-10 seconds, to see if the windows would open but they didnt. FOB still doesnt recognize car. How can I also fix FOB at this point?

Update:
I unhooked the + terminal, waited a few seconds, tried with the key manually no luck. I put the + terminal back on, and clicked my FOB and it suddenly recognized the car. I unlocked it and the car door opened.
So apparently it wasn't the latch mechanism, but now the question still remains: why does my door handle not work sometimes? The window will come down when the handle is pulled but door wont open. Then window will go up when handle released

2 for handle position (1 for inside handle and 1 for outside handle), 1 for door open and close. The microswitches talk to each other in this way:
Door microswitch sense if the door latch is lock or unlock, the handle microswitch raise or lower window depending on the latch lock and unlock position and whether the handle is pulled.
Sounds like your microswitch is ok but the actual door latch is not working.
My microswitch on the door latch wasn't working right and I sprayed a lot of lube in the latch part and fixed the problem but you may want to check out the lock mechanism itself.

Pretty sure the security system on these cars disables the fob after an extended period. You need to put the key in to reactivate the remote feature. Maybe scan the alarm section of your owners manual?

That's correct. After 7 days of sitting the fob will not work until the car is unlocked manually. I believe the manual says that it is to save power.

It sounds like two separate "problems".
The first, about the key fob, is not a problem, it is a feature. The alarm system is designed to shut down the receiver after five days of no activity. That is to reduce battery drain. It does reduce it, a lot. There are many techniques used to reactivate the receiver. The one I use, because it always works for me, is to put the key in lock, turn the key to the left, the door unlocks manually, press the fob button to lock the car, remove the key and then use the fob to open the car.
The second sounds like your door latch mechanism is slightly out of adjustment. It seems that the electrical parts are all functioning normally.

I'd get the door panel off and check out the door handle and perhaps replace the physical parts.
Very well played on leaving the hood unlatched it saved you big time! - I do the same when in storage

“Hi,
Just to update you all,
I have had a Porsche specialist round to my house who has managed to fix the problem.
It turns out that there is a pin which connects the door handle to the catch that opens the door. He took the handle off and the pin had rusted through so badly that it had snapped.
This explains why the door would appear to be unlocked with the key but still wouldn't open with the handle.
We have now replaced the pin and all is well.”

My Cayenne 955 (2004) (UK) has been in for detailing and they removed the door handle. Now it sometimes takes 3/4 attempts to close it. Anyone have any idea how to adjust the latch please. Pictures would be really useful. Thanks guys/ladies
