Default C4S and Big Red Calipers. An Option?

Hi All

I have had 3 4S's and all have had big reds. I am going to look at one this weekend that does not have them. I thought they were standard on a 4S. Am I mistaken?

What color are they? Owner may have painted them.

They are Black and do not look as big in the pictures. I am looking at the car this weekend so I will be able to tell then.

Oops. I thought my C4 calipers were black, but they're silver. My Boxster calipers were black/dark gray.

If it's a legit C4, a previous owner probably painted them black...the red calipers look terrible once they start getting chipped up after a decade or two of wheel and brake changes...

It should have them as far as I know. I don't think there is anything smaller that fits the 4S caliper bolt pattern.

I have a set of 4S brake pads at home. I will measure them and compare. Why in the world would anyone downgrade them.

All 996 C4S cars left the factory with the larger brakes and red calipers found on the turbo. PCCBs with yellow calipers were optional, but are quite rare for the C4S.

The C4 (coupe or cabriolet) has silver calipers.

The C2 has black calipers.

I don't see an option code for black calipers - so that theory is out the window...
CRD Red brake calipers
CRE Silver brake calipers
CRF Yellow brake calipers

...but none for black.

But what would they downgrade to? C2/C4 Calipers are a different bolt spacing.

The Carfax and Autocheck come back clean.

I will ask him to take a close up picture of the fronts just in case.

Apparently came from the factory that way and he sent me pictures and it looks good.
