Default Pics of my brake caliper refinish and rebuild

Check it out...blasted with 80 grit garnet....100 grit glass beads would have taken forever. Even with the garnet it took me 2 hours per caliper to blast them clean (3 layers of paint, one original then two from the previous owner). Installed RacingBrake stainless pistons and silicone boots. The original pistons, seals and bores were in surprisingly good shape given their age and track use.

Job well done! Did your wife let you use the oven to bake your calipers? They do really look good.

Yup...three days later the house still has that faint paint smell. :-)

I used the VHT caliper paint. No primer as there is not one specified by VHT so I did 5 light coats.

I'll burn it off next track season anyhow LOL.

I’ve used VHT paint on both my 996 and 993. The 996 has seen three years of aggressive track use and the calipers still look great. If done correctly this stuff holds up really well.

I refinished the 993 calipers in a very cold garage - probably too cold as the clear coat failed after three track days.

Good to know, thanks, really appreciate the experience sharing there!! I was curious how they would hold up. I considered having them powder coated but read about the same issues at track temps with powdercoating. At least w/ paint if they look bad in a couple years I can strip them again and redo it. Not as easy to do with coating.

I chose not to do the clear coating overtop. I just did extra layers of red instead. I read too many stories on various websites about the clear coat yellowing at track temps.

Really nice! What kind of sticker will survive the kind of heat a caliber is exposed to? Also, you mentioned you chose not to clear coat, so the stickers are exposed?
